    Volvo unveils S60 Polestar concept

Volvo has released official details and images of the hardcore Volvo S60 Polestar concept.

The S60 Polestar gets a highly-tuned 3.0-litre T6 straight-six motor – that includes modified combustion chambers, inlet manifold and conrods, and is mated to a large Garrett 3171 turbocharger.

Together, they produce 501bhp and top speed is said to be ‘more than 300kph and drive is sent through all four corners via a six-speed close-ratio manual gearbox.

Compared with the standard T6 AWD S60, the figures represent a power increase of 197bhp. Top speed is also 50kph higher and 100kph sprint time 2.2sec quicker.

Modifications of the 300kph super saloon’s chassis comprise a 30mm lower ride height than the standard car, as well as well as a wider track front and rear by 20mm and 40mm respectively. A 3.5-inch stainless steel exhaust system has also been fitted.

Anti-roll bars, engine mounts and cross members are also beefed up to cope with the hot S60’s considerable power boost and for added stopping power, Polestar has also fitted large, ventilated Brembo discs, measuring 380mm up front and 302mm at the rear.

To keep the concept’s 1640kg body stable at high speed, the Polestar’s lower body is also 20mm wider. For added downforce, the car’s front splitter is lower, rear wing larger and a carbonfibre diffuser is added at the rear.  The Volvo S60 Polestar is clad in Alcantara and the centre-console lowered to make changing gear easier and quicker.

The car currently remains a one-off concept vehicle, but may make limited production based on strong customer interest.
