New BMW X5 SUV likely to be priced from Rs 78 lakh

BMW India is readying the launch of its fourth-gen X5 SUV, slated to take place on May 16, 2019. The new BMW X5 will follow the launch of the BMW Z4 that took place recently.

As we reported earlier, BMW will sell the new X5 in India with two engine options – the xDrive30d trim with a 3.0-litre diesel motor good for 265hp and 620Nm of torque and the xDrive40i variant with a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that delivers 340hp and 500Nm of torque. Both engine options will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and both models will get BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive setup, as standard. Sources tell us that the X5 diesel will come first and the petrol variant could come a little later.

We can confirm that the India-spec BMW X5 diesel will come in two variants – Luxury line and Sport line – and the petrol variant will come with the performance-oriented M Sport trim only, featuring a unique front- and rear-bumper design, side skirts and stylish alloy wheels, among other upgrades.

BMW will price the X5 competitively in India and prices for the diesel variant are likely to start at Rs 78 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the X5’s key rival, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350d, is priced at Rs 77.8 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Bookings for the new X5 began some time ago and dealers say that deliveries are expected to commence in late-May 2019.
