Mercedes Benz India registers 65 percent growth in H1 2021

Mercedes-Benz India has announced that it has retailed 4,857 units of cars and SUVs in H1 (January to June) of 2021. With this, the German automaker has recorded a robust growth of 65 percent over the same period last year, when it sold 2,948 units.

Mercedes Benz India: sales trends for H1 2021

Mercedes-Benz has launched as many as eight new models in India in the first six months of 2021. This includes the new A-Class Limousine, the AMG A35 4Matic, the new E-Class, the all-new GLA, the AMG GLA 35 4Matic, the GLS Maybach 600, and the all-new S-Class.

Following a couple of months of slowdown in April and May, Mercedes-Benz particularly recorded very strong sales in June 2021.This also signifies the first signs of strong recovery in the market.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB remained the single highest selling model for the automaker in India in H1 of 2021, followed by the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV. The automaker’s entry-level models such as the A-Class Limousine and the all-new GLA also contributed to H1 2021 sales volumes.

The company has confirmed that the 50 units of the GLS Maybach 600 that were allocated for India for 2021 have already been sold out. Similarly for the new S-Class, 90 of initial 150 CBU units were booked even before the car was officially launched.

Mercedes Benz India: upcoming launches

The German carmaker will be further expanding the E-Class line-up in India with the launch of two AMG models on July 15, 2021. One of them will of course be the Mercedes-AMG E63 S, and for the first time, Mercedes will also be bringing the AMG E 53 as an entry-level model in the E-Class AMG line-up in India.

Keeping up with the market sentiment, the company will also be gradually ramping up production operations and sales from July 2021, following all the directives from local authorities.

Mercedes Benz India: online trends

It’s worth noting here that online sales for Mercedes-Benz in India continue its prominence with 20% penetration in H1 2021 sales. In fact, in the lockdown period in between April-May, online sales penetration was at 35%, with the company generating more than 25,000 leads by online sales alone, in H1 2021, according to the manufacturer.
