Honda’s Maruti Ertiga-challenger, the Mobilio MPV will hit Indian showrooms this July.
The Honda Mobilio is based on an extended version of the Brio platform. It’s 4.4-meters long, which, according to Honda, will provide space, comfort and utility in a compact package and will also be convenient for parking.
With the Mobilio, Honda has focused on both styling and interior space. The carmaker believes MPV customers in India want style, space and comfort, especially in the third row. Honda has already demonstrated its good interior packaging skills in the Honda Amaze and new City sedan, and the same formula is expected to be applied to the Honda Mobilio as well.
The Honda Mobilio MPV will be offered with the same 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines that are used in the City sedan. There will be a five-speed manual gearbox for both petrol and diesel models and a CVT-automatic ’box could also be likely for the petrol variant.
Like most recent Honda offerings, the Mobilio promises to deliver class-leading performance and efficiency figures. However, this Honda MPV won’t win any price war. According to company sources, the Mobilio will be keenly priced, but will still cost substantially more than the Ertiga. Expect the base petrol Mobilio to cost around Rs 6.2 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) or Rs 40,000 more than the Maruti Ertiga LXi.
Honda will manufacture the Mobilio MPV at its Greater Noida plant.
