F1-inspired Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed speedster breaks cover

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the PureSpeed concept, the first model from its limited volume and highly exclusive Mythos range. Essentially a two-seater speedster based on the SL roadster, the PureSpeed swaps a conventional windscreen for an F1-inspired halo. The world premiere of the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed concept took place ahead of the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix this weekend.

Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed design

The car’s design is inspired by the AMG One, with a prominent grille. It has a unique livery that fades from red to grey and sports the number 10 on its flanks – a reference to the Mercedes that won the 1924 Targa Florio.

Another highlight is the Halo, which replaces the conventional windscreen. It's a direct derivative of the one used in Formula One cars to protect the driver’s head in the event of an accident. The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed’s Halo comprises a bracket that is connected to the vehicle’s body.

Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed powertrain, deliveries

The speedster is based on the SL 63 4Matic+, which has a 585hp, twin-turbo V8 and four-wheel drive. Mercedes has announced that it will produce just 250 units of the vehicle and make it “available to the most dedicated Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts and collectors”. Deliveries are expected to commence next year.
