I am looking to buy a car for my father, who is around 64 years old and still a working professional. His daily city commute is around 30 km, and he currently owns a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. Considering his daily urban usage and ease of driving, which compact car would you recommend as a suitable replacement for the Swift Dzire?

By definition, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a 'compact' sub-4-meter car; we assume you mean your father would like a smaller hatchback instead. In this case, the Maruti WagonR would be a good option. It's notably shorter in length compared to the Dzire and narrower too, so your father should find it easier to manage within the city.

The higher seating height also gives you a better view outside, and it helps with an easier entry and exit, too.

I am looking for a good replacement for the Tata Hexa. My main priorities are comfort and stability, especially for long drives and highway usage. The Hexa has been a very comfortable and stable vehicle, so I would prefer something that can match or improve upon its ride quality, space, and overall driving comfort. Which cars available today would be a good replacement for the Tata Hexa?

The Tata Safari is a good replacement for the Tata Hexa. Like the Hexa, the Safari feels tough and has great road presence. At the same time, the Safari is also a lot easier to drive than the Hexa. Comfort and high-speed stability are highlights, and you'll also like the performance on offer. The 2-litre diesel engine and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol suit the Safari's character; we'd recommend the automatics though. As another bonus, the Safari's third row is usable and better than the Hexa's.

Hello Autocar Team, I am confused between buying an EV or a CNG car with a budget of around ₹15 lakh. I understand that EV technology is still evolving and may take some more time to mature fully. My expected running over the next five years will be around 80,000 km, and my main priority is saving on the overall ownership cost. Considering the purchase price, running cost, maintenance, and long-term practicality, which option would be more economical and sensible: an EV or a CNG car? Please advise.

An electric vehicle would be cheaper to run than a CNG if you are charging at home. And frankly, you should go for an electric car only if you have home charging, as relying solely on public charging is not convenient at all. However, if you cannot charge at home, a CNG car would be better, though in some areas, there are still long lines to fill with gas. You would also likely get a better resale value on a CNG car than on an EV, as the pre-owned EV market is yet to mature and establish some set residual values.

I want to buy a petrol automatic car in India with a budget of up to ₹13 lakh (on-road). My usage will be very low, as I will mostly drive the car only on weekends and not daily. Because of this, my main focus is on long-term reliability, low maintenance cost, and a hassle-free ownership experience. My key priorities are: Automatic transmission for ease of driving Petrol engine Low maintenance and a strong service network Reliable car with minimal long-term issues Comfortable for occasional city and highway drives The options I am currently considering are the Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, and Skoda Kylaq. Considering my priorities of long-term reliability, low running cost, and peace-of-mind ownership, which car would you recommend in this budget?

Looking at your specific requirements, the Maruti Brezza would be a good option. The car is very reliable, and the petrol engine is paired with a torque convertor gearbox automatic which is the smoothest type of autobox around. It is also very reliable and well-suited to the constant start-stop traffic conditions in most of our cities. Being a Maruti, the service experience will be good, and it also meets your requirement of having a good service network.
