Scooter sales in India registered robust growth in July 2025, even as the overall two-wheeler market continued to slow down. At 6,43,169 units, scooter dispatches rose 16 percent year on year (YoY) from 5,53,642 units in July 2024. This makes scooters the only two-wheeler category to show growth in April-July (Q1) 2025, while motorcycles and mopeds remain in decline.
Of the seven major scooter makers in the market, only four – Honda, TVS, Hero MotoCorp and Ather Energy – posted year-on-year growth. But in terms of market share, only TVS and Hero managed to expand their footprint, making them the standout performers in July.
Honda
July 2025: Sales up 16 percent YoY, holds a firm 41 percent market share
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) continues to lead the pack with 2,65,587 units sold in July 2025, up 16 percent from 2,29,076 units a year ago. Despite this healthy growth, Honda’s market share is unchanged at 41 percent. The Activa range remains the bedrock of its volumes, alongside the Dio and newer EV models like the Activa: e and QC1.
TVS Motor Company
July 2025: Sales surge 38 percent YoY, market share rises to 29 percent
TVS Motor Company sold 1,83,607 scooters in July 2025, a 38 percent YoY jump from July 2024’s 1,32,899 units. That translates to 50,708 additional units, the highest incremental gain among all manufacturers. On the other hand, TVS’ market share has grown from 24 percent to 29 percent.
Suzuki
July 2025: Sales down 4 percent YoY, market share declines to 15 percent
Suzuki Motorcycle India sold 94,296 scooters in July 2025, a 4 percent decline from 98,376 units last year. Market share has decreased from 18 percent to 15 percent. The Access 125 remains its strongest performer, with the Burgman Street and Avenis supporting volumes. Suzuki has also begun producing the e-Access, but dispatches are yet to start.
Hero MotoCorp
July 2025: Sales jump 69 percent YoY, market share grows to 7 percent
Hero MotoCorp registered the sharpest growth, selling 45,989 scooters in July, up 69 percent YoY (July 2024: 27,163 units). Market share climbed from 5 percent to 7 percent. The growth is fuelled not only by the Xoom and Pleasure but also by Hero’s expanding electric portfolio. Its Vida range accounted for 11,225 units, over 2.4 times that of last year’s 4,600-unit tally.
Yamaha
July 2025: Sales drop 8 percent YoY, market share slips to 4 percent
India Yamaha Motor dispatched 24,110 scooters in July 2025, down 8 percent YoY (July 2024: 26,290 units). Market share slid to 4 percent from 5 percent. The Fascino and Ray ZR, along with the Aerox 155, continue to see steady demand but fell short of last year’s performance.
Ather
July 2025: Sales soar 36 percent YoY, market share steady at 2 percent
Ather Energy sold 15,096 scooters in July, up 36 percent YoY, thanks to strong traction for the new Rizta model. Despite this increase, its market share remains unchanged at 2 percent.
Bajaj
July 2025: Sales tank 54 percent YoY, market share tumbles to 2 percent
Bajaj had a tough month in July 2025, impacted by a shortage of heavy rare-earth magnets. It sold 12,134 units (11,584 Chetaks and 550 Yulus), down 54 percent YoY (July 2024: 26,314). As a result, its market share fell from 5 percent to 2 percent, pushing it down to seventh place in the rankings.
