The Brezza uses a 6-speed torque converter automatic, which is significantly smoother and more refined than the AMT in the Punch, especially in stop-start Hyderabad traffic. It is also one of the most reliable and easy-to-maintain cars in the segment, with excellent parts availability and a strong service network, which is important for a 6-8 year ownership plan.The ZXi variant sits in the sweet spot of the range, offering good safety equipment, a comfortable cabin and the features you are looking for, including a sunroof, without stretching your budget. You could stretch for the ZXi+, which costs about Rs 2 lakh more, but that pushes it outside your Rs 15 lakh budget and we feel the additions aren't worth the extra outlay. This Maruti Suzuki car is also a genuinely comfortable 5-seater with a well-sorted ride and a proven ownership track record.The Skoda Kylaq is a good driver's car, but fuel efficiency can take a huge nosedive if you're not careful; the Kia Sonet is feature-rich, but cramped on space and with a firm ride. The Brezza is not the most exciting car in the segment, but it is the one you are most likely to be happy with after 6-8 years of ownership.

With your usage now down to around 10,000km a year and no real requirement for seven seats, a good five seat SUV makes more sense than replacing one large Innova with another. The Elevate gives you a spacious cabin, excellent rear legroom, good ground clearance and a comfortable driving position, while the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol and CVT are simple and easy to live with. It also keeps ownership costs and purchase price sensible.The Toyota Innova HyCross is the obvious choice if maximum space and long distance comfort remain priorities, and its 5-star Bharat NCAP rating is reassuring. However, you would be carrying around a 4.75m long, three-row vehicle when you no longer need the additional seating. The petrol HyCross also returned only 9.7kpl in testing, which makes little sense for relatively low annual running.The Seltos is another option if you want a more feature rich and premium cabin, but for a retired owner looking for relaxed, long term ownership, the Elevate's naturally aspirated engine is a simpler proposition.

It is one of the most capable and reliable SUVs on the market, with a proven reputation for durability and dependability. However, we'd recommend you consider the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel instead, for its smoother, more refined and more powerful diesel engine. The XUV 3XO is also a lot more spacious and comfortable than the Tata offerings, although its boot is a bit small. It offers a big car feel in a sub-4-metre footprint. A Kia Syros diesel is an excellent option if you are ok with its quirky styling. Since this a low-seller, you're likely to get a great deal on it too.The best time to buy is typically around December, when manufacturers and dealers are keen to clear inventory and discounts are at their strongest.
