The Range Rover Sport is a big, sporty SUV, though it’s neither the biggest nor the sportiest model with Range Rover lettering on the bonnet. What the Range Rover Sport does quite successfully is combine a wide spread of talents in a single package. The Range Rover Sport is available with a four-cylinder petrol, and V6 and V8 petrol and diesel engines. Do note, the Range Rover Sport is no longer offered with the optional third row seating.

The Range Rover Sport is large, well proportioned and looks all the better with 2018’s nip and tuck. Changes, both big and small, have upped the ambience in the cabin as well. The interior is as luxurious as ever, and the new dual touchscreen arrangement makes it look thoroughly modern too. You get a great view out, no matter where you may be seated in the Range Rover Sport’s cabin, and space is aplenty. The Range Rover Sport range starts with a surpisingly strong 300hp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, petrol engine. Even the mildest of the Range Rover Sport diesels, a 3.0 V6 unit, makes 258hp and 600Nm. So a lack of power is not a concern on any version of the Range Rover Sport. However, the Sport isn’t quite as sporty as its name would have you believe. It’s not very agile and simply feels like too much SUV on a twisty road. Even the loony and hardcore 575hp SVR can’t quite fight the laws of physics. But like all Rangies, when the going gets rough, the Sport gets going – even on its road-biased tyres. Also, while the Range Rover Sport is slightly firm in its suspension setup, it steamrolls potholes with absolute ease.

The 2.0 petrol is a good entry point to the range but if you don't mind the significantly higher outlay, the 3.0-litre diesel HSE version is the one to buy. The diesel engine builds power in a linear and smooth manner and feels properly quick too. The HSE variant is also very well-equipped, with dual 10-inch touchscreens, three-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof and multiple drive modes.
