If you’re familiar with Range Rover’s model hierarchy and nomenclature, you’d know the Sport sits just below the flagship Range Rover SUV and is built on the same MLA platform. However, it is a size smaller and has a slightly sportier demeanour. Now in its third generation, the Range Rover Sport has managed to carve out an identity distinct from its larger sibling – it is no longer just a more affordable version of the big Range Rover. We answer some of the most frequently asked questions about the Range Rover Sport, including its price, optional features, colour options and more.

What is the Range Rover Sport price in India?

The Range Rover Sport is available in India in a single HSE trim that's priced at Rs 1.48 crore (ex-showroom) for both the petrol and diesel variants. Range Rover Sport on-road prices in Mumbai start from around Rs 1.75 crore, while in Delhi, it is slightly more affordable at Rs 1.71 crore.

Is Range Rover Sport manufactured in India?

Yes, JLR locally assembles the Range Rover Sport in India at its Pune plant. In fact, India is the only country outside the UK where the Range Rover Sport is locally assembled. However, only the base HSE trim is assembled here in India. If you want the higher-spec Autobiography or Edition Two variant, it will come in as a full import. Do note that imported variants of the Range Rover Sport are a lot more expensive, costing well north of Rs 2 crore (ex-showroom).

What engine options are available with the Range Rover Sport?

The made-in-India Range Rover Sport is available with two 3.0-litre, straight-six mild-hybrid engine options on the HSE trim – petrol and diesel. The 3.0-litre petrol produces 400hp and 550Nm, while the 3.0-litre diesel makes 350hp and 700Nm. Both come mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic, with 4WD and air suspension as standard.

Customers can also opt for a 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine with the Autobiography and Edition Two variants, which makes 590hp in the Autobiography, and 635hp in the Edition Two; torque is rated at 750Nm for both. There’s also a 460hp/660Nm 3.0-litre petrol plug-in hybrid powertrain that can be opted for on the Autobiography trim.

What features are on offer on the Range Rover Sport?

The Range Rover Sport HSE in India comes equipped with digital auto LED headlamps, a powered tailgate, a 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a heads-up display, soft-close doors, a Meridian 3D audio system, a wireless charger, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, configurable ambient lighting, four-zone climate control, a 11.4-inch rear-entertainment screen, 3D surround camera and an ADAS suite.

Customers can also additionally opt for an extended leather package and a remote park assist function. As standard, the Sport gets 22-inch wheels in India.

What colour options are available with the Range Rover Sport?

As standard, the Range Rover Sport is available with five exterior paint shades in India – Fuji White, Santorini Black, Giola Green, Varesine Blue and Charente Grey. One can also choose between a body-coloured roof finish or a contrasting black finish. On the inside, there are three dual-tone finishes for the dashboard and upholstery to choose from: Caraway/Ebony, Light Cloud/Ebony and SV Bespoke Deep Garnet/Ebony. The imported Autobiography and Edition Two variants allow for more customisation options.

Is the Range Rover Sport a 7-seater?

No, the Range Rover Sport is strictly a 5-seater. If you are looking for a 7-seater option in JLR’s line-up, you can consider the much more affordable Discovery Sport, or even the flagship Range Rover and Defender 130 SUVs.

Can the Range Rover Sport go offroad?

Being a Range Rover, the Sport has quite some off-road ability. All-wheel drive aside, there’s Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system that helps calibrate the SUV for different off-road scenarios. The standard fit air suspension allows for 281mm of ground clearance at its highest setting, and the Sport can also wade through 900mm of water. A cool and handy inclusion is the ClearSight Ground View monitor that gives a visual of the area under the bonnet.
