I just sold my SUV and am looking to upgrade, I am an enthusiastic driver and go for on-road trips a lot. I have a family of 4 adults and a 5 month old kid. I am looking for a 4-seater SUV with great driving experience with a car seat for my kid. Also, I need space for a full size stroller and at least for 2 suitcases. As I will drive and explore through this car, reliability is important and easy access to get things fixed if at all is important. My budget is between 2 and 3 crore. Many have suggested LC 300. Do you have any other suggestions?

The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 is a very strong recommendation for your requirements. It is one of the most capable and reliable SUVs on the market, with a proven reputation for durability and dependability. It offers a spacious cabin that can comfortably accommodate four adults and a child seat, along with a large boot that can easily swallow a full-size stroller and multiple suitcases. Its off-road capability is exceptional, making it an excellent choice for road trips and exploration.

The BMW X7 is another excellent option, offering a more engaging driving experience and a similarly spacious and luxurious cabin. BMW also offers extended warranty and prepaid maintenance packages for a worry-free ownership experience.

If you are looking for something even more special, the Range Rover Sport is worth considering. It offers a superb blend of luxury, comfort and off-road capability, but it is considerably more expensive than the X7, and it does not have the same reputation for long-term reliability as the Toyota.

There is a new generation Nexon due; however, there isn't a firm timeline known so far. If you can wait, we would suggest waiting until the Bharat Mobility (Auto Expo), which is due to be held in early February. The plans for the new Nexon might be made clearer by then, and if not, you would have a few more electric options to choose from. Hyundai, for instance, will showcase its small EV called the Ioniq P. If you must have an EV right away, then yes, the Nexon is a good choice, but you can also consider the Kia Syros EV; it would be a bit more expensive but would offer you more space and a better-tuned powertrain.

Hi, I am 72 years old and looking at a final upgrade to my current car, a Kia Seltos GTX. Although both of us currently drive, I would also like the option of being chauffeur-driven in the future, if required. Therefore, rear-seat comfort and safety are important considerations. My annual driving is around 8,000km, including approximately 4-6 medium-distance trips. I would appreciate suggestions on upcoming launches in 2027. Would an EV or a hybrid make sense for my usage? Home charging will be available at our new home from mid-2027. I would prefer a mid-size, high-riding SUV that offers easy ingress and egress, along with comprehensive ADAS and parking assistance features. My budget is around Rs 50 lakh, with some flexibility. Looking forward to your suggestions.

With a budget of around Rs 50 lakh, there are some interesting options worth considering. In the hybrid space, the upcoming JSW Combat, based on the Jetour T2, would be one of the more interesting options. It should offer a distinctive design, a high seating position, a premium cabin, plenty of features and strong performance. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain could also make good sense given your relatively low annual running and the availability of home charging from mid-2027.If you prefer a more conventional luxury SUV, the Skoda Kodiaq is another option worth considering. It offers a comfortable, spacious cabin and a more traditional SUV experience, although it does not offer a hybrid powertrain.

I currently drive a Hyundai i20 Asta and am now looking to upgrade to a 5-seater SUV. My priorities are performance, comfort, safety and decent mileage. Based on my test drive, I feel the Thar Roxx is not the most suitable option for family use. On the other hand, the XUV 7XO is a 6/7-seater, which I would prefer to avoid. I am looking for a 5-seater SUV that can comfortably meet my requirements and serve me well for at least 10 years. Kindly suggest which would be the best option for me.

You are right about the Mahindra Thar Roxx. While it offers strong performance and road presence, its ride comfort may not be ideal for your family's requirements, particularly with 60 per cent highway usage. We would suggest looking at the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel automatic instead. It offers a more comfortable ride, a spacious cabin, better rear seat comfort and strong highway performance. It will be a more suitable family SUV for your usage, without compromising too much on performance.

I am planning to buy the top-end Hyundai Creta Turbo Petrol DCT variant. My daily running is around 50–100km, which adds up to approximately 25,000–30,000km annually. I am looking for a car that offers strong performance and quick acceleration, along with a comprehensive set of comfort and convenience features. Should I buy the current Creta Turbo Petrol DCT top variant or wait for the 2027 Creta? For context, I currently own a 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire Hybrid and a Volkswagen Virtus GT 1.5 TSI.

The 2027 Hyundai New Creta will be thoroughly updated inside-out, and it'll have more tech and features. If you don't mind waiting, it makes sense to get the 2027 new-gen model. Do note, its powertrain options are likely to be carried forward from the current version. If you can't wait, but still want the performance as well as the latest in terms of tech and features, consider the Kia Seltos turbo-dct instead, which packs in more or less everything the next-gen Creta is likely to offer.

Which SUV would you pick for a family of 5?

I’m planning to buy a new car, and my annual running is around 40,000km, primarily involving highway drives and ghat sections. I have shortlisted the Kia Seltos Diesel HTX and the upcoming facelifted Toyota Innova Hycross ZX. I’m considering two approaches: either buy the Innova Hycross and keep it for the next 10 years, given its reputation for longevity and the expectation that its engine can last at least 4 lakh kilometres, or buy the Seltos, drive it for around 2 lakh kilometres over 4–5 years, sell it and upgrade to a brand-new Seltos or another car of a similar price and size. On paper, the Innova Hycross Hybrid seems like the better choice, considering its long-term reliability and features such as the Ottoman reclining seats. However, I’m concerned that I might get bored of it after four years or that it may start feeling outdated as newer technologies and features enter the market. This makes the second option appealing, as it would allow me to upgrade to a brand-new car every 4–5 years. Which approach would make more sense in the long run, considering my high annual running and ownership costs?

It seems like you're leaning towards the Kia Seltos Diesel HTX, and we think it is a good choice. The diesel engine feels adequately powered for highway usage and ghat driving, and it is likely to return respectable efficiency too. Moreover, despite being modern with all the latest tech and features, the Seltos will be substantially more affordable than the Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid. So unless you need the Innova's extra space, or you frequently travel with six or seven passengers, the Kia Seltos diesel is your best bet.
