This is the new Volkswagen Cross Up, a rugged version of the Up city car.

The Cross Up is distinguished from the regular five-door VW Up by its black body cladding for the wheel arches and side sills. The bumpers and exterior mirror housings are also painted with a light metallic silver finish.

The model is fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels with a design familiar from VW’s other Cross models, and wrapped in 185/50 section tyres.

Inside, the front-drive Cross Up gets special trim for the seats, special floor mats, a revised instrument panel and chrome surrounds for the air vents.

Power comes from a 74bhp three-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, a combination familiar from the standard Up. VW's initial information on the car does not make reference as to whether or not the traction control system is revised to offer any extra control in low-grip conditions.
