Volkswagen India has started deliveries of the Ameo compact sedan. The bookings for the car had started along with its first roadshow on May 12, 2016. The Ameo, which dropped its covers globally at the Auto Expo in February, was launched on June 6.
The Ameo compact sedan is based on the VW Polo. It shares its nose and much of its beltline, as well as its wheelbase, dashboard and switchgear with the VW hatchback. Available in both petrol (1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI) and diesel (1.5-litre four-cylinder TDI), the Ameo takes on the likes of the Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Figo Aspire and the Tata Zest.
Standard equipment on the Ameo includes dual front airbags and ABS for all variants. Additional features on higher variants include cruise control, rain-sensing wipers and static cornering lights. What sets the Ameo apart from its competition is that its rear seatback can be flipped down to expand boot space.
Volkswagen has launched the Ameo at a price of Rs 5.24-7.06 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which makes it cheaper than most of its competition. Its pricing along with Volkswagen-typical German build quality and premium image, makes the Ameo an incredible value position.
