Nissan has just revealed a low-cost version of the Micra, named the Active. Not to be confused with the ‘new’ re-designed car, also launched on the same day, the Active targets the lower half of the hatchback segment with the range starting from as low as Rs 3.5 lakh. This shocking price puts the Maruti Swift-sized Micra up against competition like the Hyundai i10 and the Maruti Alto K10, making it a fantastic value proposition.  The Micra Active is powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol motor. Thee is no diesel engine available.

There are four versions of the Active. The first two versions of the Micra Active look like the old version. The base XE trim is quite basic spec. It comes with body-coloured bumpers, black wing mirrors, an air-con, power steering with tilt adjust and an immobiliser. But at Rs 3.5 lakh, the Active XE is a significant Rs 1.29 lakh less than the base variant of the standard facelifted Micra. The Active doesn’t get the same treatment that the facelifted Micra does though. In fact, it retains a lot of the earlier cars elements. But it comes with a slightly tweaked exterior, including a restyled bumper, and revised interiors.

The mid-spec XL variant, which costs Rs 4.01 lakh, comes with power windows in the front, keyless entry, internally adjustable wing mirrors, adjustable rear headrests, a 12V power outlet and speed-sensitive central locking. The XV, priced at Rs 4.30 lakh, comes with a slightly different front bumper, body-coloured wing mirrors and door handles, full wheel covers, front and rear power windows, 2-DIN stereo with USB and Aux-in with front speakers, a passenger-side vanity mirror, tachometer, rear parcel shelf and a luggage lamp. The top end XV (Safety) version, which costs Rs 4.71 lakh, adds a driver airbag, ABS and EBD, seat belt and door-open warning indicator.

The addition of the Active range takes the total Micra range to 11 cars spread between a price-range of Rs 3.5-7.14 lakh. As it stands, the entire Micra range appeals to an array of buyers with varied budgets at both ends of the hatchback spectrum.
