The Alpina B6 BiTurbo Gran Coupé has been unveiled at the Geneva motor show. The new B6 Gran Coupé develops an M6-rivalling 532bhp from its twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine, which is claimed to endow the model with a 0-100kph time of 3.9sec and a 317kph top speed.
The engine uses two bespoke turbos – one feeding each bank of cylinders – a set of Mahle pistons specially developed for Alpina and an active exhaust system.
Alpina’s first four-door coupé uses adaptive suspension and BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system that can shift power fore and aft in milliseconds. The torque distribution system is “performance-orientated” and is claimed to increase agility while maintaining neutral handling.
Calibration of the dampers and stabilisers is specific to Alpina and feeds off a range of driver aids including stability control and steering response.
Power is transmitted through an eight-speed ZF gearbox, recalibrated for Alpina. It allows simultaneous downshifts and can skip gears depending on engine load. In manual mode, the gearbox deactivates automatic upshifts allowing the driver to hold gears at high engine speeds.
