BMW 7-series touchscreen infotainment system (for representation purpose only).

BMW is set to introduce updated infotainment systems on its X5 and X6 SUVs in international markets.

Currently, the models use the iDrive controller to operate their infotainment and navigation systems. However, according to a report by BMW Blog, the current 10.25-inch display will receive the touchscreen technology that was recently introduced by the new BMW 7-series.

Along with the addition of touchscreen support, the X5 and X6 will also get the latest iDrive 5.0 system. With this update, the system is now operable through the improved display, but still retains the iDrive controller in the center console. The advanced gesture control technology offered on the new 7-series, however, will not be offered on the current generation X5 and X6.

The new touchscreen for the X5 and X6 is expected to be a standalone update for the 2017 models, rather than a part of a facelift. BMW has not confirmed whether current X5 and X6 owners will be able to upgrade to this new technology.

There is also no news about the updated infotainment system heading to the India-spec X5 and X6.
