Beijing 2014: Peugeot Exalt sedan concept revealed

The Peugeot Exalt saloon concept has been given an early debut ahead of official public launch at the Beijing motor show next week.

The sleek four-door model is a follow-up to the acclaimed Onyx concept from the 2012 Paris motor show. It is powered by a hybrid drivetrain and constructed from what the French firm describes as “original materials”.

Peugeot accidentally sent a sole image of the car and a brief description of it to the French media yesterday. The image shows the “crude steel and ‘Shark Skin’” textile body of the four-seater concept; similarly innovative materials, including copper, were used for the mid-engined Onyx concept.

The company has previously said that the use of natural materials, and the minimalistic design of the Onyx concept, will become a design hallmark for its future models.

Powering the concept is a Hybrid4 all-wheel drive powertrain that mixes a petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined 335bhp. Peugeot has announced no performance figures for the concept.

When first announcing a concept for Beijing in January, Peugeot said the saloon would be 4.73 metres long and 1.31 metres high with space for four passengers and their luggage.

The interior has not been seen at this stage, but Peugeot revealed that the innovative material use would continue inside the Exalt with the likes of ebony, leather and steel.

More details of the Exalt are expected to be revealed ahead of its debut at the Beijing show next Sunday.
