Haval F5 could be a right-sized SUV for India

Chinese manufacturer Great Wall Motor has a whole host of SUVs at its Auto Expo stand, and amongst them is the Haval F5 – a Jeep Compass-sized midsize SUV.

The F5 sits on the same platform as the Haval H6, with both models having an identical wheelbase of 2,680mm. However, the F5 is shorter than the H6, measuring 4,470mm in length. When compared to the Jeep Compass, the F5 has a 44mm longer wheelbase and is 75mm longer overall.

The F5 SUV’s front-end sports a large grille with chrome trim, slim and angular headlights and a faux skid plate. At the side, the rising window line and sharp shoulder line lend it a sporty stance. The F5’s profile is coupé-like thanks to the sloping roofline. At the rear, the tailgate design is clean and uncluttered, with LED tail-lights and ‘Haval’ lettering running across it. The SUV also gets dual exhaust ports and a faux splitter at the back.

The interior has a neat layout with the centre console angled towards the driver. It gets all the bells and whistles, like leather upholstery, a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen for the infotainment, and automatic climate control for the AC.

Powering the Haval F5 is a 1.5-litre, turbo-direct injection petrol engine that produces 166hp and 285Nm of torque. The car showcased is equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, but a 6-speed manual is also on offer.
