If you have a passion for cars and fast cars in particular, the Autocar Performance Show is something you don’t want to miss. Being held at the Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai from the 17th to the 20th of this month, the show is your best chance to get up close and personal with plenty of really exciting machines, all under one roof. This year, we bring you an eclectic mix of performance and racing machines from all over the world.

Here are the top 10 cars you shouldn’t miss at the APS 2011:

    Renault R31 Formula 1 car

Missed the race in Delhi? No problem. You can catch up with one of this year’s Formula 1 cars in the flesh at the performance show. Make sure you take a close look at the incredibly compact frontal area, the ‘multi-function’ steering wheel, the complex wings and aerodynamics, and even the RS27 engine, displayed separately.

    Aston Martin Rapide

The Rapide, with its four doors and four seats, is probably the perfect Aston Martin for the loaded family man who doesn’t want to give up his sportscar. Powered by a 6.0-litre V12 producing 469bhp at 6000rpm, this engine also produces 61.24kgm of torque. And there is so much performance on tap; the sports saloon will sprint to 100kph in 4.9sec on its way to a top whack of 296kph. But what really blows you away is the attention to detail on this car when you take a close look at it.

    Chevrolet WTCC Cruze

Chevrolet has brought down their hardcore silhouette racer, the WTCC Cruze (World Touring Car Championship, a series the Cruze has won twice). The car features a much wider track, ground-hugging profile, stiff body structure and smooth aerodynamics (even the grille is only painted on). It looks absolutely stunning in the flesh and it’s not difficult to imagine this car running flat-out from chicane to chicane on a race track. As per WTCC regulations, there is a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine under the hood which makes about 310bhp. Make sure you don’t miss the stunning video of the Cruze WTCC at the Chevrolet stall.

    Jaguar XKR-S

The fastest and most powerful production car Jaguar has ever built – the new Jaguar XKR-S shows a side of Jaguar we haven’t seen in years. This car is all about hardcore performance and so under the hood is a huge 5.0-litre V8, which further encouraged by a large-capacity supercharger. Each rear wheel of the XKR-S gets 271bhp as a result, making this the quickest Jag in a long time. Of course, the upgraded looks are as much a talking point on this car; designer Ian Callum’s team seems to have got the level of aggression just right.

    Audi R8 V10 Spyder

The result of a union between a Lamborghini engine and an Audi chassis, the R8 V10 Spyder is one of the most attractive looking supercars around. In fact even now, years after its launch, it still looks stunning in the metal, especially this drop-top version. The real treat, however, is the massive Lamborghini-sourced 5.2-litre V10 in the rear, which sounds cracking too.

    BMW M3 ‘Frozen Black’ edition

The M3 is a strong contender for the title of India’s Ideal Muscle Car. Using a big V8 up front and rear-wheel drive, this car develops a massive 414bhp. Moreover, this is the ‘Frozen Black’ limited edition, which features a special matte black paint and additional, performance-enhancing features. The special paintjob looks much better in flesh. The cabin also gets enhancements like special leather seats and much more.

    VW Polo R Cup

The racing Polo is powered by a 128bhp, 1.6-litre, four-cylinder, common-rail diesel engine which is closely related to the production unit and, thanks to its high torque figure, easily hustles the 1090kg touring car body along rather briskly. The Cup car uses a modified suspension setup, engine control unit, engine mounts, flywheel, and inlet and exhaust systems. Power is transmitted by a six-speed manual gearbox with modified gear ratios and final drive, as well as a limited-slip differential at the driven front wheels.

    Audi RS5

It has the motor of a supercar, enough grip to rip tarmac apart and sufficient ground clearance to be driven anywhere. Here is a supercar, but without the tantrums you normally associate with one, and you can use it every day too. The RS5 is powered by a 4.2-litre FSI V8 that churns out 444bhp. More significant still is the car’s all-wheel-drive system, whose centre differential pushes 60 percent of the RS5's torque to the rear axle most of the time.

    BMW 650i Coupe

Larger and more comprehensively equipped than its predecessor, the new 6-series coupe exudes class from the very first moment – and not only in terms of styling and interior appointments, both of which are much better resolved than on the car it replaces. Its 4.4-litre V8 produces a massive 407bhp and its white corona-rings (now fashioned from LEDs) are surely going to grab your attention.

    Jaguar XF facelift

Jaguar is making inroads into the Indian luxury car market and knows it can’t afford to be slow to offer its very latest. In that light, the company has wasted no time bringing in its facelifted XF saloon. The refreshed car gets a new nose, XJ-like slit eyes and a mildly revised tail. Changes to the interiors are subtler still. The facelifted XF continues to be powered by the 274bhp, 3.0-litre V6 diesel and the 380bhp 5.0-litre V8 petrol.

Also on display are plenty of new production cars such as the new Skoda Rapid, Renault Pulse, Hyundai Eon, Honda Brio, Chevrolet Beat diesel, Mahindra XUV500 and Nissan Sunny. Enjoy the show and see you there.
