Volkswagen launched its Polo hatchback in 2010. It did get a few mild updates in 2012, but nothing truly noteworthy. Then, in 2013, Volkswagen launched the Polo GT in an attempt to offer high performance with high levels of technology. Now, the upcoming 2014 Polo gets a considerable number of changes. Here are some of the things that will make it to the Polo facelift, to be launched on July 15th.

Bumpers - The front bumper is newly designed, with a thick chrome strip running across the air-dam. Changes to the rear bumper are not too significant. There is also a quirky new orange paintjob option.

Grille - The shape of the grille is retained and it now gets a single strip of chrome instead of three. The sparing use of chrome gives it a smart look.

Lights - The headlamp and fog lamp assemblies are redesigned. The headlamps retain the black housing for the reflectors, but get some silver detailing. There are no LED daytime-running lights. Tail-lights get slight restyling.

Dashboard - The dashboard can be had in dual-tone and the centre console gets some silver finish.

Steering wheel - It is a brand new three-spoke steering which boasts piano-black garnishing and a changed button layout. Buttons on both sides on the steering look more aesthetically balanced.

Instrument panel - The instrument cluster remains the same, although the multi-information display between the speedo and tacho is no longer red and will likely be more detailed.

Alloys - Brand new design for the alloys.

Engine – The facelifted Polo will get a new 1.5-litre TDI engine, made available in two states of tune, 89bhp and 104bhp. Expect the Polo GT TDI to get the 104bhp version. For the petrol, it will retain the 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.2-litre TSI.

Volkswagen has now halted production of the current Polo and dealers are looking to clear inventory. Further bookings are limited to only a few dealers with stock.
