Vespa's surprise at IBW 2015

26th Feb 2015 11:05 am

Vespa had their GTS Super 150 and GTS Super 300 displayed at the IBW 2015.

Vespa displayed four scooters under its umbrella at the India Bike Week 2015. Two among these were the Vespa S and the Elegante that are on sale here in India. But alongside were two never-seen-before scooters namely, the Vespa GTS Super 150 and the Vespa GTS Super 300. We approached Vespa and found that these scooters are in the pipeline for an India launch soon.

The GTS collection is a step above the current Vespa VX or Vespa S models available in India. They are larger in size compared to the VX, with a robust yet retro design to them.

The GTS Super 150 seen at the IBW was painted in sporty red, with black and silver, five-spoke wheels. It had a fully analogue instruments console that was legible. The GTS 150 is powered by a 154.8cc, four-stroke, single cylinder and air-cooled engine that is fed by a fuel-injector. It makes maximum power of 11.7bhp at 7,500rpm, with peak torque of 1.2kgm produced at 5,000rpm. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via CVT automatic transmission. Suspension duty is carried out by a single side-mounted shock absorber upfront, and the rear gets dual suspension. Disc brakes are provided both, in front and at the rear, for safety. It has a nine litre fuel tank.

The GTS Super 300 seen at the IBW had a windscreen and a rear luggage holder, all part of the accessories list provided by Vespa. Also seen on the black GTS 300 was a digi-analogue console. It is powered by a 278cc, four-stroke, fuel-injected and liquid-cooled engine. The GTS 300 produces 21.2bhp at 7,500rpm and maximum torque of 2.3kgm is produced at 7,500rpm. Suspension duties are carried out by a single front shock absorber and a dual suspension system at rear. Both front and rear disc brakes are equipped with ABS. Smart five-spoke wheels are provided on both the scooters.

While the two scooters on display were quite similar to each other, the major difference between them was in the details. However, there is no word on how Vespa will price the two upmarket scooters here. We will just have to wait and see. More as we get the news.
