On March 9, 2013, Italian two-wheeler major Piaggio held the Vespa Golf Classic at the Pune Golf Club. The tournament saw leading businessmen and industrialists from the city come together to play golf on Saturday morning. The day ended with a prize distribution ceremony, handed out by Ravi Chopra, chairman and MD, Piaggio vehicles.
Piaggio held this tournament as a brand building exercise to catch the attention of and be associated with the higher strata of society to whom the premium Vespa scooter is targeted towards.
