HMSI expands production capacity

Second phase of production in Tapukara doubles capacity. Third all-new facility coming up in Bangalore next year.

Honda Scooters commenced the second phase of production operations at its Tapukara Industrial Area plant in Rajasthan. This is Honda’s second plant, the first one is at Manesar.

The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer has invested more than Rs 1,000 crore at this facility. With the second phase of production now in action, the annual capacity of this plant is now doubled to 1.2 million units. Models such as the 110cc Activa, the CB-Twister (110cc) and CB Shine (125cc) are being rolled out from the Tapukara plant.

Honda’s third plant is near Bangalore and is scheduled to become operational in the first half of 2013, with annual production capacity of 1.2 million units. This capacity expansion plan will increase HMSI’s total annual production capacity to 4 million units, including 1.6 million units at the first plant, 1.2 million units at the second plant and 1.2 million units at the third plant.
