I want to buy a car. I am a 36-year-old woman and am confused about which car would be safe and comfortable for city as well as occasional highway use. I am also unsure whether I should opt for a manual or an automatic. My budget is up to ₹8 lakh. Please suggest.

You should look at the Maruti Suzuki Swift. It's an easy-to-drive car whose compact dimensions make it city-friendly. Performance is pleasant, while the light clutch and smooth gearbox mean even the manual gearbox version is convenient to drive.
However, if you often drive on congested roads, the AMT auto is worth a look. It's not the smoothest kind of automatic gearbox, but it sure beats having to modulate the clutch over long, bumper-to-bumper commutes.

I am looking for a compact suv near 14-15 lacs. But can't decide . Initially I thought among Brezza, Venue and Sonet. Now I am seeing every car has some or the other shortcomings. I need a 5 seater comfortable car, automatic which will mostly be for city use and sometimes long drives with family. Should I consider the upper segments car like Elevate and Seltos but again budget will be high. So I am quite confused.

Given your budget, you should stick to the compact SUV segment, as you will only get a base model of a midsize SUV in this budget. Of course, any product will have its shortcomings, but the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue are all good options in the compact SUV space. The Brezza is the most spacious and practical of the lot, and it also has a good ride quality. The Kia Sonet is a great car too, but it's not comfortable for five, and its suspension is quite stiff. The Hyundai Venue is the newest and a good all-rounder, but expensive for higher variants. We would recommend the Hyundai Venue HX8 1.0 Turbo Petrol DCT in your budget as it is a great combination of features, safety, and comfort, and would best meet your needs.

My average monthly travel is 800-1000 km, including long trips. I am confused about upgrading. Should I go for an EV? In EV selection, I am confused between the iX1 LWB, EV6, Sealion 7, and Ioniq 5. Please advise.

Doing long trips in an EV is possible, but it does require planning. With the charging infrastructure improving, many people are already doing highway drives without major issues. That said, charging infrastructure can still be unreliable in some areas, and charging does take more time than refuelling. If you plan to buy an EV, having access to a home charger is important. Over time, charging on long drives is only going to become easier as infrastructure improves.Given that you drive extensively and also take long trips, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a suitable option. In our real-world range test, the Ioniq 5 delivered an overall range of 457km, which should work well for your usage.

I am a first-time geared two-wheeler rider. I am an 11th-12th student planning to buy a bike as a birthday gift, and I am deciding between the Jawa 42 FJ and the Yezdi Roadster 2025 model. Which one should I buy? I am 181 cm tall and weigh 82 kg. Also, how should I maintain the bike in terms of cleaning, when should I clean it, and how can I prevent it from rusting?

Both the Jawa 42 FJ and Yezdi Roadster are mechanically very similiar with the only difference being some visual elements and how you sit on the bike. A test ride of both over various road conditions should help you decide which one is the right fit for you. Coming to when to clean your bike, that's a very subjective thing based on where you live and how you store your vehicle. If you have covered parking that protects your bike from dust, then a soap wash once every 10 days to a fortnight should be more than sufficient. If you don't, then you may have to clean it more often. To prevent rusting, try to regularly coat exposed metal parts with some sort of grease and try to keep them under a good-quality bike cover.
