My priority for getting a new car is a bit different from usual. I have three dogs (all medium-to-large breeds: Golden Retriever, Labrador and Indian Pariah), and I like travelling with them on long road trips once every quarter. My previous car was a 2014 Honda Amaze MT, which was very cramped. My requirements are an SUV that is powerful and safe. Maintenance and fuel costs can be a little high. My preferred budget is Rs 15 lakh, but I can stretch to Rs 20-22 lakh if it is worth it. I love driving and music and prefer a manual transmission, though I can consider an automatic. The EcoSportโ€™s flatbed was interesting for my use case.

You may consider the Kia Syros for its roomy cabin. Its boxy shape makes it surprisingly spacious on the inside, and its rear windows roll down almost fully, which your four-legged members will appreciate.
The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine of this Kia car is adequately powerful, and its controls are light, making it quite user-friendly. Its music system is quite good too. You could also consider entry-level variants of the Mahindra XUV700 for its sheer size and cabin space.

Iโ€™m planning to buy a new petrol automatic and would like suggestions based on my needs. My monthly running is about 800 km (mostly city) with occasional highway trips carrying five passengers. My priorities are comfort, practicality, reliability, fuel economy, and stability. Must-have features are a sunroof, reverse camera, cruise control, and modern tech and safety. Iโ€™m considering Syros HTK Plus DCT, Nexon Creative Plus DCA, Venue HX8 DCT, Brezza ZXI AT, and 3XO RevX A, but Iโ€™m open to better alternatives.

Considering your requirements, the Kia Syros fits the bill and will offer everything you need in one package.

The petrol engine has enough grunt for daily city driving, and the DCT gearbox is easy to use, especially if youโ€™re not expecting high performance. The drive modes also help it adapt better on highways. It has the roomiest cabin among the SUVs youโ€™ve mentioned.

The rear seat with the recline function is very comfortable. The panoramic sunroof brings in a lot of light and makes the cabin feel more open. The features and equipment list are excellent, and the overall build quality is very impressive.

The only area where it may fall slightly short is fuel efficiency, though the difference isnโ€™t much.

Overall, itโ€™s a fantastic package and works as a great all-in-one car.

Hi, I currently drive my car for 6,500-7000 km a year. 85% of my drive is within the city (mainly home-to-office) and 15% on NH. Looking to buy an Automatic Petrol car (SUV) with a Rs 15-16 lakh budget. Interested in a car with good handling, which is comfortable for 6-foot-tall people to sit, and has annual maintenance not in excess of Rs 10,000. Please advise.

The Kia Syros is a good option given your requirements. It's not an SUV, but it has an incredibly roomy cabin, enough room for tall passengers in the seat, and has a lengthy equipment list as well.
Since most of your driving is within the city, its easy driving manners and compact dimensions will offer an advantage. Kia's maintenance is also reasonably priced, and it should fit within your budget.

I have been driving an Ignis since 2017 and have crossed 1,50,000 km. It is still going strong. Since my age is around 70, I want to switch to a new car with a DCT AMT. My budget is around โ‚น15 lakh. Please suggest a car that fits my parking space. There is no room for long SUVs. Looking ahead, should I choose diesel or petrol?

The Kia Syros and the Hyundai Venue are good options to consider. Both will be a satisfying upgrade from your Maruti Suzuki Ignis and should fit a tight parking spot, as both cars come in under the 4 meter mark.
We are not sure what you mean about the AMT, but assume you mean 'without AMT', in which case again these cars will fit the bill. The petrol version of both come with a dual clutch (DCT) gearbox, while the diesels have a torque convertor (TC) unit.
Since you are also worried about the petrol vs diesel issue, opt for a petrol if your running will not be very high in the future.

I currently own an automatic Fortuner used mainly for highway runs and need a new automatic car (strictly โ‚น15 lakh on-the-road, Chennai) for family use. My driving will be 70% city / 30% highway. It must be a wide, proven car that comfortably fits 2 adults + 1 teen in the rear, from established brands (no risky new marques), with strong safety and dependable performance. Iโ€™m deciding between GV, Victoris, Hyryder, and XUV 3XO - sub-4-metre cars wonโ€™t meet my rear-seat space needs. Which should I choose?

The XUV 3XO you have shortlisted is a sub-4-metre SUV, but don't rule it out as it has a wide and spacious back seat.

In fact, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, which is also a sub-4-metre SUV, also has a wider back seat and more headroom than its larger siblings, the Maruti Victoris and Grand Vitara, while having the same petrol engine and 6-speed AT.

What's more, you will get a fully loaded Brezza ZXi+ AT for the same price as a lower spec Victoris VXi AT, and within your budget of Rs 15 lakh, on road.

If you're fine with Kia as a brand, and don't mind the polarising exterior look, the Kia Syros 1.0 T-GDi HTX DCT is an excellent option in your price range, with superb interior space.

I'm looking for a new car for my 68-year-old father. He wants a compact SUV with good ground clearance because our i10 often bottoms out on the ramp of our new home. The car should offer good manoeuvrability on narrow streets, excellent all-round visibility, and easy ingress and egress. He may also have a driver, so the back seat should be spacious. The car will be used only in the city and must be a petrol automatic. Among the Hyundai Venue HX5 and Kia Syros HTK Plus variants, which will be better?

The Kia Syros will be an excellent choice as it satisfies all your requirements. It is compact but has a spacious interior. The seat height of this Kia car is perfect for the elderly and does not require much effort to get in and out of, and the rear seat is very good in terms of space and comfort.
The petrol-automatic is easy to drive, and as long as the seat is not set low, the visibility is good too.

My Honda City is now end of life, and I have shortlisted the Nexon Smart Plus AMT, Glanza S AT, Amaze V CVT, and Swift VXi AGS. These cars belong to different segments, but this will be my second car as I already own a sedan. It will be used mostly for city driving, and I don't want to spend much. Please advise which one to choose, or if I should stretch a bit and go for the base Kia Syros. I am also open to CNG.

Among the vehicles on your shortlist, our pick is the Honda Amaze V CVT. Its CVT gearbox delivers a far smoother experience than you'd get with the AMTs of the other options. We'd also recommend the Hyundai i20 iVT as an option. Again, its CVT gearbox is slick and works well with the 1.2-litre petrol engine.

The Kia Syros is a nice option that scores very well for cabin quality and space. However, you'd have to settle for a manual gearbox version within your budget. Given that you will primarily use the car in the city, we'd advise an automatic and suggest you consider the options listed above.

After 13 years of driving a Jazz, I want to buy a new car for my family of three plus a dog. We live in a small city and drive very little, but take occasional weekend trips. My budget is flexible, ideally around โ‚น15 lakh. Iโ€™d like space, a premium feel and good ride quality. Please recommend 2โ€“3 best options. Should I consider a sedan or stick to SUVs? I like the Alcazar but Iโ€™m unsure about spending over โ‚น20 lakh for my needs.

You might want to consider the Kia Syros - a quirky, boxy compact SUV, with high-quality interiors and a surprisingly spacious cabin. It's a 60:40 split seats slide and fold too, adding flexibility, and its rear windows roll fully down, which is a positive for your pet. If you want something that's larger and more premium, you may want to check out the Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun, both of which are nicer to drive, especially for your outstation trip.

Hi Autocar Team, Iโ€™m looking for a compact SUV thatโ€™s feature-rich and tech-loaded, offering good space and comfort. My usage is around 500-600 km a month, so I need something easy to manoeuvre in the city, reliable, and suitable for keeping for over 10 years. Iโ€™m confused between the Kia Syros, new Hyundai Venue, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO.

The Kia Syros would be our recommendation as it offers a fantastic interior and a well-equipped cabin, along with good space and comfort. It also has multiple powertrain options and is a very well-packaged compact SUV.
Given your monthly running, the petrol with a DCT gearbox will offer an easy and hassle-free experience.
