I have a budget of ₹15 lakh, but I cannot decide which car to buy. My requirements are a spacious cabin, good mileage, low maintenance, good after-sales service, and premium features without being overly high-tech. My elderly parents should be able to get in and out comfortably. I prefer a 7-seater, but if the budget is limited, I can opt for a 5-seater. Please suggest options.

Given your requirements, you should consider the Kia Carens Clavis. The Carens Clavis has a spacious cabin, and even the third row can comfortably accommodate adults. It is also not a particularly high-riding car, so your parents shouldn't have any trouble getting in and out. Furthermore, the MPV is also proven to be reliable, and Kia also offers good after-sales service.
Kia offers the Carens Clavis with a 115hp, naturally aspirated petrol, a 160hp, turbo petrol and a 116hp, diesel engine options. The latter two can also be had with an automatic gearbox. Choose the right one for you depending on your usage. Kia Carens Clavis prices range from Rs 11.08 lakh to Rs 20.71 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hi Autocar Team, I have three children and parents in my family, and I have decided to purchase the Kia Carens Clavis. My daily commute is about 35 km in the city, and I usually take a 300 km highway trip once a month. I have been driving a diesel car since 2011, but I am now unsure whether to choose the petrol naturally aspirated (NA) variant or the diesel variant of the Carens Clavis. Considering my usage pattern and family requirements, which engine option would you suggest?

Since you don't drive much, paying a premium for a Kia Carens Clavis diesel version doesn't make much sense. Yes, diesel is more efficient, but to offset the initial premium, you will have to drive considerably more. Hence, we recommend the naturally aspirated petrol engine. The 115hp engine has enough power for city driving and holds its own on the highway. The manual gearbox is smooth, the clutch is light, and overall, it is an easy car to drive. The HTE (O) gets you a decently appointed cabin with a touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof, rear AC vents, and more. The third row is spacious for adults, and the middle-row seat height is ideal for the elderly to get in and out.

Looking for a seven-seater car that would be of good quality and safety, with good comfort for both the driver and passengers, along with good mileage and power. Budget under ₹15 lakh. Daily travel of 50 km and a weekly 250 km trip to my native place.

You can consider the Kia Carens Clavis. It is a good-quality car with a very nice and premium interior, and the dashboard and all the switchgear feel well-built. It is also very comfortable and spacious, and even the third row is spacious enough and has dedicated AC vents as well as Type-C USB charging ports. In terms of safety, the Clavis comes well-equipped with six airbags, ABS and ESP as standard. Within your budget, you would get a mid-spec petrol or, if you are very concerned about running cost then opt for the base diesel.

I have been looking for a secondary car, primarily to be driven in the city. A petrol automatic would be preferred. Mileage is not a very big criterion. Good engine performance, features and a hassle-free ownership experience are on the must-have list. We are looking for something compact and easy to maneuver in the city and park in tight spaces. Budget is around ₹15 lakh, plus or minus a lakh. A lack of dealerships in the city we reside in restricts us to only a few brands: Maruti Suzuki (Nexa too), Kia, Hyundai, Mahindra, Toyota and Tata. We test drove the Hyundai Venue (new gen), Kia Sonet and also looked at the Toyota Fronx and Nexon. Which car would you kindly suggest?

The Hyundai Venue is a good option to consider. It is compact, has a good feature list, and the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is punchy and fun to drive. The DCT automatic gearbox is also smooth and quick to respond. Being the newest entrant to the compact SUV segment, it gets a modern cabin that is well-equipped and gets all the features you would want. This Hyundai car also has decent space at the rear, and the ride comfort and sales and service experience is good, too. Overall, it is a well-rounded package that does everything the way you'd want it to. The HX 8 trim is one shy of the top-spec, but it will fit in your budget and offer a long equipment list.
