The new Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line comes with sporty design elements from the brand’s high-performance R cars. While the R-Line models primarily feature cosmetic upgrades, the new Volkswagen SUV is also more powerful than the previous Tiguan sold in India, making it a lot quicker. So, how fast does the 2025 Tiguan R-Line sprint from 0-100kph?

The new-generation Tiguan carries forward the same 1,984cc (2-litre) TSI engine as its predecessor, but power is now bumped to 204hp, an increase of 14hp; peak torque output remains unchanged at 320Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen Tiguan R Line acceleration times

    0-100kph takes 7.11 seconds

From a standstill, the VW Tiguan R-Line reaches 20kph in 1.12 seconds, 60kph in 3.26 seconds, and hits 100kph in 7.11 seconds. The run to 120kph takes 9.89 seconds, and it clocks 140kph in 13.83 seconds. Yes, a 0-100kph time of slightly over 7 seconds is respectable for an SUV of this size, but our Tiguan R-Line review noted that power delivery lacks punch, especially in the bottom end of the rev range. The Volkswagen SUV does offer multiple drive modes, including a Sport mode that sharpens throttle response slightly. However, beyond that, it largely prefers a relaxed driving style.

One highlight is the response from the paddle shifters. Even though the Tiguan’s gearbox doesn’t hold gears till the 7,000rpm redline and upshifts around 6,000rpm, the DCT unit offers good control over downshifts.

Volkswagen Tiguan R Line in-gear acceleration

Both 20-80kph and 40-100kph sprints in kickdown take less than 6 seconds

In terms of in-gear acceleration, the new VW SUV performs reasonably well. The Tiguan R-Line takes 4.15 seconds to accelerate from 20-80kph in third gear and 5.32 seconds to go from 40-100kph in fourth gear.

Before we conduct our performance tests, we check and maintain tyre pressure based on the manufacturer’s recommendation and ensure the car has a full tank of fuel. The car is then tested in a controlled environment with two people on board, and the data is collected via highly accurate GPS-based timing equipment.
