We are a family of four, and my daily commute is within Delhi during peak hours. I am looking to replace my VW Ameo automatic with a hybrid. Is the mild-hybrid Hyryder a good option, or is the strong hybrid recommended? Any other options you feel are better?

Given that the majority of your running will be done in peak city traffic, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong hybrid makes sense for you over the mild hybrid. The Hyryder has a cabin that's comfortable for four, and with the strong hybrid, you also get the benefit of much better fuel efficiency.
In our fuel efficiency tests, the Hyryder strong hybrid returned 20.28kpl in the city and 22.85kpl out on the highway. Meanwhile, the mild-hybrid petrol-manual AWD managed 10.83kpl and 15.67kpl in the city and on the highway, respectively.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid are still relatively new in the Indian market, so there isn’t enough real-world data yet to say definitively which one will have better resale value. What we can go by for now is brand perception and past trends: Toyotas typically enjoy very strong resale because of their reputation for reliability and low running costs, so it is reasonable to expect the Hyryder to hold its value slightly better over time, all else being equal. That said, the Grand Vitara shares the same Toyota-sourced hybrid powertrain and battery tech, and Maruti’s wide service network and lower maintenance costs also work in its favour, so the gap in resale may not be huge in the real world. On the hybrid battery side, both the Grand Vitara and the Hyryder Strong Hybrid come with an 8-year or 1,60,000 km warranty on the lithium-ion hybrid battery pack, which is now fairly standard for Toyota’s self-charging hybrids and has been extended to the Maruti-Toyota joint products as well. This long warranty is significant because it effectively covers the period when most owners would worry about a big-ticket failure. The battery in these cars is relatively small (around 0.7–0.8 kWh) and is designed to cycle gently between partial states of charge, which greatly improves its life compared to a full EV battery that is regularly fast-charged and deep-cycled.As for eventual replacement cost, there is no official India-specific figure published for the Grand Vitara/Hyryder hybrid pack yet, but looking at typical Toyota hybrid battery pricing abroad and early dealer-level indications, a rough ballpark of around Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh for a full pack replacement is a reasonable estimate in today’s terms, excluding any future inflation. Actual cost will depend on the exact part price at the time, taxes, and whether you go through the authorised network or a specialist workshop once the car is much older. It is also worth noting that Toyota hybrids globally have a very strong track record for battery longevity, with many running well past 10 years and high mileages without needing a pack replacement, and India gets the same basic technology. So while you should be aware of the potential cost, for most owners the battery is unlikely to be a recurring expense within the normal ownership window.

I am planning to buy a new automatic SUV with a budget of around ₹16 lakh. I am considering the Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, and the new Skoda Kushaq. My driving will be around 80% in the city, and I am looking for a car with a good performance engine and decent mileage. Which of these options would be the best choice for my requirements?

You should consider the Kia Seltos IVT for your requirements. The SUV is powered by a refined 115hp, 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that's mated to a smooth CVT automatic gearbox. As for the efficiency, we managed 10.31kpl in the city and 14.22kpl out on the highway, in our real-world mileage tests. The Kia Seltos also comes with a spacious cabin, a comfortable ride and a long list of features. Given your budget, go for the Seltos IVT HTE (O) variant, which costs Rs 15.55 lakh (on-road Delhi).

I am planning to buy a new car but am confused between the Tata Punch Pure Plus (2026), Maruti Suzuki Baleno Delta, and Maruti Suzuki Fronx. My budget is around ₹8 lakh, but I can stretch it up to ₹9 lakh. My usage will include both city and highway driving, and at times, there will be three passengers seated in the rear. I am also considering increasing my budget further to buy a Tata Nexon, which has added to my confusion. Could you please help me choose the right option?

The new Tata Punch is a solid choice in the Rs 8 lakh budget; however, it is quite narrow, which means seating three in the back seat can be a bit tight. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is better in this regard, with a slightly wider and more comfortable rear seat, but do visit both showrooms and experience them yourself. Both cars are comparable in terms of performance and efficiency, but the Baleno’s four-cylinder engine is more refined than the Punch’s three-cylinder unit.Apart from the different body style and slightly raised suspension, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is essentially the same as the Baleno. Therefore, the main reason to upgrade to the Fronx is if you need the higher ground clearance or want the turbo-petrol engine, which is not available on the Baleno.Regarding the Tata Nexon, to get a reasonably well-equipped variant, you will need to stretch your budget to around Rs 10 lakh and opt for the Pure Plus petrol variant. For the additional money, you get an SUV body style, a roomier cabin with a better rear seat than the aforementioned options, and a turbo-petrol engine with much stronger performance. If it isn’t too much of a financial burden, it is worth stretching to get the Nexon. But if you want to stick to your budget, the Baleno remains a good choice.
