Is it okay if I take my one-day-old car for a 1,000km ride? Will that affect its engine? What do you suggest?

AAA While we’d recommend completing your first service and oil change before taking your new car for a long drive, there is nothing set in stone to say that you shouldn’t, as modern cars are fairly reliable.

However, you still need to exercise some caution. Specifics depend on the car model but as a general rule of thumb, avoid driving at steady speeds (instead use a wide range of rpm) – which can be a bit difficult on the open highway. Also avoid redlining the engine (leave out the last 20 percent of the rev band) and of course don’t overspeed. Complete your first service as soon as you get back.
