Deciding between the Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Kona EV and the MG ZS EV

I have been an enthusiastic reader of Autocar for the past 8 years, and now I need some advice. I am looking for a replacement for my Chevy Beat, which is almost 12 years old. I want it to be an EV, and the only ones within my Rs 25 lakh budget are the Hyundai Kona, the MG ZS EV and the Tata Nexon EV. I have read the detailed road test of the Nexon EV in the January 2021 issue, and I loved it. Still, I would like some advice, so that I know I have made the right choice for the long run.

We have tested all the EVs extensively and the MG ZS EV is the best all-rounder. It has the best range, the most spacious cabin and is the most refined of the lot. However, the Nexon EV makes a fantastic case for itself as it is over Rs 6 lakh cheaper, is more fun to drive and is fairly refined and spacious too. The only real weakness is the Nexon EV’s range, which in our test cycle came to around 200km. The Kona EV is the most expensive and not worth the extra outlay. It is smartly put together and has a good infotainment system, but we have doubts about its claimed 400km+ range, which is hard to come close to in real-world conditions.
