I am planning to buy a new SUV. I am considering the Creta or Seltos, and if I look at a 7-seater, the XUV 7XO or Scorpio N. Which is better between the Creta and Seltos, and between the Scorpio N and XUV 7XO?

Between the Hyundai Creta and Seltos, both cars offer the same engine and gearbox options. However, the Kia Seltos is all-new, features a larger body, more cabin space, and feels a notch up in quality as well.
Your choice of seven-seaters isn’t as similar. The Mahindra Scorpio N is built on a body-on-frame chassis, which means it's very tough and can take a lot of beating, but it's nowhere near as comfortable as the XUV 7XO, which has a larger cabin and far more features.
The biggest difference between the two is ride quality: the Scorpio N, a tall-riding SUV, rocks from side to side and is quite bumpy on rough roads. In contrast, the Mahindra XUV 7XO, with its updated suspension, feels incredibly refined and comfortable. It softens the bumps and feels very stable at high speeds. So if you don’t travel on really bad roads, the XUV 7XO is a far better option.

I have a budget of ₹22 lakhs and am looking for an automatic petrol car, either a proper 5-seater or a 7-seater. Suspension and performance are my top priorities. I am confused between the Mahindra XUV 7XO, the 2026 Renault Duster 1.3 L Turbo (as I do not have clear information on its suspension), and the Volkswagen Taigun GT Sport (which feels cramped for 5 people). Please suggest the best option.

The Mahindra XUV 7XO is the best option for you. It has a spacious and comfortable cabin with three rows of seats, though it's worth noting that the third row is a bit cramped for adults. The Mahindra XUV 7XO is powered by a 203hp/380Nm, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, delivering strong performance. The XUV 7XO also features new 'DaVinci' dampers and hydraulic bump stops in the suspension setup. As a result, this SUV feels plush and comfortable at low speeds and composed at highway speeds. Mahindra XUV 7XO petrol-auto prices range from Rs 17.47 lakh to Rs 23.64 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Confused between the Safari petrol and the XUV 7XO. The reason is the future-proof claims of the Tata Hyperion engine being BS7-ready and E27 compliant. Please suggest what to do.

We wouldn't base our choice on the engine's compatibility with E20. It's not just Tata Motors, but most manufacturers that have upgraded their engines beyond E20 compliance to E27 to protect them against higher ethanol blends. There are other reasons to choose between the Tata Safari petrol and the XUV 7XO petrol. If you want space and comfort, especially in the third row, the Safari is the one for you. The Mahindra XUV 7XO is the more enjoyable of the two to drive, thanks to its strong mStallion 2.0-litre engine and improved dynamics. The 7XO has more on-board tech and features as well.

I am planning to buy the new Seltos. Kindly advise whether to go for the iMT or CVT version, as I prefer an automatic.

Since you want a proper automatic gearbox, it's the Kia Seltos CVT that you should go for out of the two you have mentioned. The Kia Seltos iMT is a clutchless manual, meaning there's no clutch pedal for you to operate but you do have to manually row through the gears like in a conventional manual. The Seltos CVT, on the other hand, is like any other automatic wherein you just have to shift the gear selector either to 'D' (Drive) or 'R' (Reverse). It's worth noting that the Seltos is also available with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox only with the 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a 6-speed torque converter automatic only with the 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine.
