Hi, Asking for the 3rd time. I’m looking to purchase a new 7-seater car. My usage will be about 30% city and 70% highways. I need a 5-star safety rating (for adults and kids), and the vehicle should be comfortable to drive and also fun to drive. Reliability is very important to me. My budget is ₹29 lakh on the road. Please suggest a suitable car. Thank you.

The best option for you would be the Mahindra XUV 7XO. It is spacious, comfortable, and has an excellent ride quality. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is punchy and fun to drive, and it is also quite refined. However, if you wish to clock in a lot more kilometres, there is a strong and refined diesel engine option too.

Both engines offer very good performance, so if you are a keen driver, these will not disappoint you. The steering is light, but also changes character depending on the drive mode. Also, the new DCx dampers give it fantastic stability and bump absorption.

The XUV 7XO is also available with a 5-star safety rating. Mahindra has updated the safety with newer ADAS tech that is a lot better than the segment competitors.

Within your budget, you can get the AX7 L, which is the top-spec version with all the bells and whistles.

Tata and Mahindra have always given problems to the customers, please expect to deal with issues every now and then even if you are a careful user, there is a reason why they are able to provide cars at the price point at which they do, it is not just because of government taxation benefit!

Have prebooked xuv 7xo ax7l , if budget is not a concern and as i am planning to keep the car for 7+ years , is it worth to strech and go for more premium vw tayron r line? My concern with tayron is reliability and potential expensive repair costs. Is it worth the high price and risk over xuv 7xo

I would suggest you go for TATA Safari. This is value for money product with good milage and it's Safety is world wide famous. I am driving safri since last 4 years and haven't feel any tech issues or service issues and getting 17-18kmpl on highway always...you can imagine I drive it to 87k and went from Ladakh to Kanyakumari and Gujrat to Sikkim...haven't felt any tiredness of discomfort.

If mileage is not an issue top choice should be jeep meridian ,hycross and hector plus. Indian segment XUV 7XO. All these cars recommended, choose according to your choice of looks and preferably go for test drive.

I am interested in buying the Mahindra XUV700 AX7 L diesel automatic. However, since I work in the Navy, my car will remain parked in the garage for about 4-5 months each year. My concern is whether there could be any issues with the diesel engine if the car remains unused for 4-5 months. When I return from ship duty, my monthly running is around 2,000-3,000 km. I am not interested in the petrol version due to its lower fuel efficiency. Could you please advise whether going for the diesel model would still be a good choice in my situation?

With your usage pattern, the diesel version of the Mahindra XUV 7XO actually makes sense. Once you are back from deployment, your monthly running of around 2,000-3,000 km is more than sufficient to justify a diesel, both from an efficiency and performance point of view.Leaving a modern diesel car unused for 4-5 months is generally not a problem as long as it is stored properly. Before leaving, it is advisable to keep the fuel tank almost full and disconnect the battery or have someone start the car occasionally if possible. The main thing to watch out for is the battery, which can drain if the car sits unused for long periods. When you return and start using the car again, make sure the car gets a longer highway drive early on. This helps the diesel particulate filter regenerate properly and keeps the engine running smoothly.

Hello Autocar Team, I am planning to buy the Mahindra XUV700 AX7, but I am confused about whether I should choose the diesel automatic or the petrol automatic variant. My daily driving is around 70 km. Could you please suggest which option would be the better choice for my usage?

Go for the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 Diesel Automatic, at 70 km/day (2,100 km/month), its stronger low‑rpm pull, and longer range suit daily commutes and occasional highway runs better than petrol.Your daily 70 km means you cover a serious distance, around 2,100 km a month, where diesel’s efficiency advantage becomes meaningful over time. The diesel’s stronger low‑end torque makes city overtakes and hill climbs easier, and for a diesel, it is refined, and it feels very relaxed for highway cruising too. Longer range between fills reduces weekly stops when you’re doing 300-400 km in just a few days. Also, with such regular running, the diesel’s DPF can complete regenerations reliably, keeping warnings at bay.The one thing you give up is the petrol’s quieter, smoother feel and lower upfront price; the diesel costs more and is a bit noisier at idle.If most trips are short stop‑start city runs, with few highways, consider the XUV7XO AX7 Petrol Automatic instead for smoother refinement and no DPF fuss.

I am looking to buy a car for my parents, who do not drive, so it will mostly be chauffeur-driven. My main priority is rear seat comfort. We are upgrading from a 2011 Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. The car will mainly be used for highways and long trips, with minimal city usage. However, I would prefer an automatic transmission in case I need to use it occasionally in the city (Bengaluru). Before starting test drives, I wanted your suggestions on some suitable vehicles. Based on my initial research, I have shortlisted the following options: Honda City ZX CVT Kia Seltos HTX iVT Honda Elevate ZX CVT Škoda Slavia 1.5L Sportline DSG or 1.0 Monte Carlo AT Volkswagen Virtus Topline AT My budget is around ₹20–21 lakh. Which option would you recommend, especially considering rear seat comfort and highway usability?

Go for the Honda City ZX CVT. For chauffeur‑driven parents, it offers the comfiest rear bench, ample legroom, and a smooth CVT for Bengaluru traffic within your ₹20-21 lakh budget.Rear comfort is its strength: the 2,600 mm wheelbase helps knee-room, the rear seat is well-cushioned with good thigh support, and the ride is tuned soft for long trips. The 506‑litre boot easily swallows luggage for highway runs. ZX adds 6 airbags and ADAS with adaptive cruise control, useful on long highways. The CVT’s smooth creep and no shift‑shock make occasional city use easy. Versus your shortlist, Elevate’s rear bench feels upright, while Slavia/Virtus ride firmer and are more driver‑centric for back‑seat comfort. The one thing you give up is ground clearance in comparison to the Elevate. Also, if getting in and out is a concern, the Elevate's high-set seats would make it easier. A test drive should sort that out. For now, we recommend the City for its hassle-free ownership experience, reliability and most of all, a refined and comfortable cabin.
