Hi, I own a Ritz 2013 model petrol and it has been a good experience with it. I have driven around 60k till now. I now want to add another car keeping Ritz as well for few more years. I am looking for an upgrade having a better engine, automatic and good interiors. My budget is in the range of 20 to 25L. I do not want a bigger SUV like XUV 700 as it is too huge and difficult to drive within the city. I drive only on weekends in the city and most long drives are outside the city. I drive around 4000 to 5000 kms in a year. I was thinking of Tata Sierra, new Seltos, Creta and Hyryder but mostly liked the Sierra as it is a new car with good features. Can you please suggest which is the best option?

Since you’ve already liked the Tata Sierra a lot, you can go ahead with it. We’d recommend the Turbo Petrol automatic variant, as it is powerful, delivers effortless performance, and will feel like a proper upgrade over your Maruti Suzuki Ritz.

The Sierra also comes with a naturally aspirated petrol option, but it isn’t very strong on performance. In fact, it is among the slowest cars we have tested, with a 0 to 100 kph time of 17.34 seconds for the manual transmission.

If your usage is predominantly city based and you value smoothness over outright performance, you can also consider the new Kia Seltos with the 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with either a manual or a smooth CVT automatic. This engine feels noticeably stronger than the Sierra’s naturally aspirated unit and will still feel like an upgrade over your Ritz.

My budget is ₹18-20 lakh. Requirements: automatic, Android Auto, comfortable for five people. The only car that I have liked so far is the Kia Seltos, but the waiting period is over 10 weeks. Are there any other cars with a similar width to the Seltos?

In terms of width and interior space for five occupants, the Tata Sierra is a good choice for your needs.Your key requirement is space for five, similar to the Seltos. The Sierra is only about 10mm wider than the Seltos, but crucially, it is 80mm longer and can comfortably seat five. It is also comparable to the Kia Seltos in terms of powertrains, ride and handling, features and safety. However, the Sierra is in high demand, and waiting periods could be similar to or even longer than those of the Seltos, depending on the variant. If that is a concern, then consider the Tata Harrier. On the test drive, seat three adults in the rear and do a 10km loop. Check shoulder room, noise levels and suspension comfort with the car fully loaded.

I have a Maruti Baleno (2016) as our family car, which is good, but I am looking to replace it with a newer SUV. Although I read your column regularly, I am confused about which car to buy. I have a tight budget of ₹16-17 lakh and am looking to get maximum value for my money. So out of Seltos HTK, Duster (2026), Sierra, and Elevate, which one should I consider? My usage is 70% in the city and 30% on highways.

Pick the Kia Seltos HTK IVT as it best suits your requirements.Your city-heavy usage benefits from its smooth and seamless powertrain, light controls and settled low‑speed ride, which make driving in traffic and parking less tiring. For weekend highway runs, it feels confident at 80-100 kph cruising speed and has enough room for 4 adults plus luggage. Within your budget, the Kia Seltos HTK gives you the core safety and convenience features without forcing you into pricier trims. The one thing you give up is advanced driver assistance (ADAS) on the HTK; those features start higher up the range.Alternatively, if you prefer a simpler, no-frills package and prioritise easy ownership over features, consider the Honda Elevate V CVT.

For long-term usage, the Toyota Innova HyCross GX (O) and the Maruti Victoris ZXi (O) strong hybrid are safer bets than the Tata Sierra Accomplished+ Turbo Petrol. Both come with a solid reputation for reliability and strong after-sales support, which is what really matters over 8-10 years of ownership.Between the Toyota HyCross and the Victoris, the HyCross is the more comfortable and practical choice. Its very spacious cabin, better third-row usability and comfortable ride make it a nicer long-distance family car. The 2.0-litre petrol engine is simple and proven, and its relaxed highway manners are a big plus if you do a lot of intercity trips. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris strong hybrid scores on efficiency and smoothness thanks to its hybrid powertrain, which is especially nice in traffic and helps keep running costs low. However, the boot is smaller, and the cabin is the least spacious of the three, so it’s not as versatile for full-family use. If you mainly drive yourself with only occasional passengers, the Victoris, which is also the most compact and city-friendly of the lot, is the easiest to live with in daily urban driving.
