Which car should I buy? I am confused between the Toyota Fronx and the Tata Sierra. Should I go with a high-end Fronx model or a base Sierra model within the same budget? I will usually use the car for long journeys, mostly on highways and village roads, and I prefer a manual transmission.

The Tata Sierra is clearly the larger of the two cars and will give you more space than the Maruti Fronx, as well as a better ride, too. However, the base version of the Sierra isn't as well-equipped as the Fronx.

More importantly for you, the versions that fit your budget come with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, which is quite weak in its power delivery and not ideal for you, given that you are mostly driving on highways. Thus, a high variant of the Fronx would suit you better.

My budget is ₹20-22 lakhs. Most of my driving is in bumper-to-bumper city traffic for about 30 km daily, with a highway drive of around 1000 km once every six months. I need an automatic vehicle with features like a 360° camera, blind-view monitor, and ventilated seats. Please suggest some vehicles.

Considering your requirements, we would suggest the Kia Seltos HTX CVT with ADAS.For daily city commutes, the 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a CVT automatic feels smooth, refined, easy to drive and offers a comfortable ride. It is also well equipped and gets all the features you are looking for and more. For occasional highway use, this engine and gearbox combination has enough punch as well.An alternative is the Hyundai Creta, which uses a similar engine and gearbox, but the Seltos feels newer and better specced. Another option is the Tata Sierra, though its 1.5 litre naturally aspirated engine does not feel as effortless as the one in the Seltos.

Hi, I own a 2024 Tata Punch and it’s my first car. Although I am reasonably happy with it, it lacks punch and, being a small car, feels unsettling over bumps and bad roads. I am planning to upgrade to a more enthusiastic car with some heft. Is the Citroen Basalt X a good choice? Other models I’m considering are the Tata Nexon Turbo and Hyundai Venue Turbo.

Yes, the Citroen Basalt X will be better in both aspects that you desire. The turbo-charged engine is very peppy and is nice to drive, and the ride of the car is excellent, a typical Citroen hallmark. We would rule out the Tata Nexon turbo as the power delivery isn't very strong like other typical turbo engines. If you want to consider something other than the Citroen, test drive the turbo version of the Nissan Magnite. The 1.0-litre unit has a good mid-range punch and is something that you would enjoy.

I currently own a 2021 Brezza manual and am planning to upgrade to an automatic car with a budget of around ₹25 lakh. Creta EV, Tata Sierra, and the new Seltos are on my list, but I’m confused. I like the Creta EV but am unsure about the 8-year battery warranty and charging infrastructure in India. I’m worried about Sierra’s after-sales service, and with Seltos I’m concerned about mileage in the city. Could someone help me finalize one?

Your worry around charging infra is well-founded. While the infrastructure is growing fast, it remains unreliable. EVs make good city cars if you have home charging, highway driving requires planning. Tata Motors is is actively working to improve service perception and quality. However, it continues to be a common concern among buyers.Given your priorities of good after-sales support and fuel efficiency, you can go for the Kia Seltos 1.5-litre NA petrol. The claimed mileage of around 17 km/l is competitive in this segment, and if you drive with a light-foot, you can get good mileage.
