The choice really comes down to what you are looking for from your car, and without knowing that its hard to pinpoint one. If you drive mainly in the city, we would rule out the Harrier. It is quite large, and though the steering on the petrol is light, on the whole, the car does not really feel nimble on its feet. It is best for highways and longer drives. Between the Tata Sierra and the Hyundai Creta, the Sierra has the advantage of newness and novelty value. You will also get more equipment, like a three-screen setup, a better-sounding audio system and a powered tailgate. However, you will have to pay more than Creta. Thus, if your budget is strict, then the Hyundai Creta will prove to be a very good all-rounder.

Considering your requirements, the options we would recommend you take a look at are the Bajaj Pulsar N250, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, TVS Ronin, Honda CB350 and Royal Enfield Hunter 350. Of these, the lighter 200s and 250s will feel more agile and have better fuel economy, while the heavier 350s won't feel as agile but will be a little more comfortable. Another option worth taking a look at is the Hero Xpulse 210, which will be the most comfortable of all the bikes listed here. However, it won't be as agile owing to its large 21-inch front wheel, soft long-travel suspension and long wheelbase. There are also some instances of engine issues being reported online, so it would be advisable to wait for some time before purchasing the Xpulse.A test ride of these bikes should help you figure out which is the best option for you.

You should check out the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, which has a plush ride and scores well on fuel economy. Its interior doesn't wow with the latest tech and gizmos, but scores for space and excellent seat comfort. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx Turbo/ Toyota Taisor Turbo would be next on our list. There's a bit more flash inside the cabin, the turbocharged engine is more exciting than the Brezza's and fuel economy is also good. Again, ride comfort is impressive.The new Hyundai Venue is also an option. It's got a modern interior but trails the Marutis on ride quality.

Sadly, there is absolutely nothing in the Rs. 30-40 lakh range that can replace your Skoda Octavia and give you a similar driving pleasure. In fact, there are no sedans at all in that price range, and neither are there any SUVs with the character and feel of the Octavia you are looking for. The Octavia RS is your best option, but on-road prices around Rs 60 lakh are way beyond our budget. The Skoda Kodiaq in the region of Rs. 50 lakh is less of a stretch, and though it's an SUV, it has Skoda’s DNA of good ride and handling. If you simply cannot stretch your budget, you can downgrade to the Skoda Slavia 1.5 with the 7-speed DSG. It’s a very entertaining car to drive fast, and being a sedan comes closest to your Octy in terms of character.
