I am planning to upgrade from a Polo. Should I go for the Citroen Basalt X or the Tata Sierra? My priorities are good build quality, driving dynamics, looks, and decent features.
While roughly in the same segment, the two cars you have listed are very different from one another and are at opposite ends of the price spectrum. However, both will meet your requirements, albeit at different levels.
The Citroen Basalt X, with its lower-powered 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, rides high off the ground but is closer to a sedan in concept. It has received a 4-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating and feels solidly built, but crucially, it has tight driving dynamics and is fun to drive. Its aggressive pricing also makes it an excellent value for money, especially with the upgrades introduced on the X variants.
The Tata Sierra is a larger, more expensive, and altogether more premium product. It doesn't yet have an NCAP rating, but it feels strongly built and will likely get a full 5-star rating, judging by Tataโs track record. Though the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine of this Tata car is considerably more powerful than the Basalt X's 1.2, it doesn't feel punchy or exciting, and instead is very calm in its responses. Similarly, while its suspension is comfortable like the Basalt's, it doesn't feel tied down and suffers from lots of body roll. It has far more space and features than the Basalt X, though that also comes at a much higher price.
We would recommend the Citroen Basalt X overall, but since you are upgrading from a Polo, consider waiting for the Volkswagen Taigun facelift launching early next year, which will offer more features and aligns well with your preferences.

Iโm looking to own a car that is reliable, has good resale value, and low maintenance cost. It should have high torque and be punchy, with good handling and a rugged body. My budget is up to โน20 lakh. Please suggest.
These two cars are very different, so it depends on your preference. The Citroen Basalt X is a natural upgrade from your Polo, offering fantastic ride and handling, a strong 1.2 turbo-petrol engine, and a pleasure to drive. However, compared to the Tata Sierra, the Basalt feels a couple of segments down.
It is nowhere near as well-equipped, and in fact, the Sierraโs most significant selling point is all the tech on offer, which includes three digital screens for the infotainment system, a top-notch audio system, ADAS features and a lot more. Also, the Sierra is more spacious and solidly built. Being an SUV, the Sierra is not as agile as the Basalt, but it's still a pleasure to drive and hence overall fits your needs better.

I currently drive a 2014 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, which feels underpowered for my driving style and returns only about 15 km/l on average. Iโm looking for a mid-size SUV with good ride comfort, enough power for enjoyable highway overtakes, and decent fuel efficiency as a bonus. Safety is important. My budget is โน12 lakh, and Iโm considering the Citroen C3 Aircross, Citroen C3 Basalt X, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kyaq, and Tata Elevate. Please suggest the most suitable option.
From your shortlist, and looking at your requirements, we would recommend the Citroen Basalt X.
Ride quality is a Citroen cars hallmark, and on the Basalt X, too, ride quality is excellent; the suspension does a superb job of soaking up all the bumps and ruts. As for overtaking on highways, the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine is decent, but if you want something very quick, opt for the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol instead, which is very quick and lively. As for fuel efficiency, you should be able to get mid-double-digit figures on highway runs. In our standard highway cycle, we got 15.01kpl and 9.87kpl in the city.

I want to buy another car which is spacious and comfortable and comes with an automatic transmission. I have a budget of around 15 lakhs. Which cars do you suggest?
Given your requirements of space, comfort and an automatic transmission, weโd suggest you have a look at the Citroen Aircross and Basalt. While the models arenโt very popular, they deliver with excellent ride comfort, ample space and a smooth powertrain. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine works really well with the torque converter automatic transmission. The recent updates have also made the interior experience nicer. All in all, the Citroen cars are surely worth a serious look.
Of the other options, you could consider the Kia Syros (great cabin space and ambience but crashy ride), Honda Elevate CVT in V trim (roomy interior but average refinement) and the Mahindra XUV 3XO (good on space and comfort but limited boot space).

My requirements are a minimalist design (not too many gadgets), a manual transmission, good comfort and space, and a roomy boot. Coming to your question, the Honda Amaze, while practical and comfy, does not have the driving thrill you would want.
The Volkswagen Virtus, while impressive, will not fit in your budget apart from the base variant, which isn't too impressive. The Citroen Basalt X will be a good pick out of this lot. It has a punchy turbo-petrol engine that is lovely to drive, the ride comfort is excellent, and it has a large boot as well.
Also, while it is feature-packed, it isn't unnecessarily complicated, and the functions are easy to use. The Basalt X would be our recommendation.

I am planning to buy a new petrol automatic car with a budget of โน15-17 lakh. My usage is mostly city driving, and I prioritise efficiency over features and aesthetics, as long as the performance is good. Iโm considering the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Skoda Kylaq. I also like the Toyota Hyryder for its hybrid efficiency, but it exceeds my budget. Which car would suit me best?
All the compact SUV options you've listed are powered by turbo-petrol engines, and since you are looking for efficiency, be warned, in typical city driving (stop-go conditions), these turbo-petrol engines aren't likely to be very efficient.
Also, these are very sensitive to the driving style and ambient conditions, which can drop the mileage down to single digits. Among the options you've listed, the Mahindra XUV3XO 1.2 Turbo (MPI) AT is likely to satiate your need for performance while offering a smoother and comfortable experience overall.
Another option you may consider is the Citroen Basalt X/Aircross X, provided there is a Citroen touchpoint in your city. However, if you want to keep the running costs down at all costs without sacrificing performance, go for the Tata Nexon EV 45.

I am looking for a car with a budget of โน15 lakh. I drive about 500 km per month within the city and take long trips twice a year (~2,000 km each). I need a responsive engine, good boot space, and driving comfort for both city and highway driving. I have shortlisted Basalt X, Skoda Kushaq and the new Hyundai Venue. Your inputs will help me decide.
The Citroen Basalt meets your three requirements very well. It has the largest boot of the lot and has a responsive engine, and is very pleasing to drive with the most comfy ride too.
The only issue is that the company's dealer network is very small; if, however, this is not an issue for you, the Basalt would do just fine.
If this is a deal breaker, then look towards the Skoda Kylaq, the boot is larger, and in general, it is more enjoyable to drive when compared to the Hyundai Venue.

My budget is โน12-15 lakh. I need a car for a family of five, with priorities in this order: safety, reliability, comfort on bad roads, value for money, and highway comfort. Iโm not keen on gimmicky features. Iโm leaning toward the Citroen Aircross X but also considering the 3XO, Taisor, and Honda City.
We suggest going for the Citroen Aircross X or the Basalt as they are larger than the Mahindra 3XO, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor or even the Honda City.
Both are these Citroen cars are spacious, have excellent ride quality, and offer great comfort in the front and rear seats. The turbo petrol engine has ample power for city and highway use, and the massive boot adds to its practicality. While it misses out on a few features compared to the Mahindra XUV 3XO, it more than makes up for it with comfort and practicality, which perfectly suit your needs.

Considering your usage and budget, we suggest shortlisting the Citroen Basalt. If youโre looking for a manual variant, you can opt for the top Max trim, which now comes with all essential features.
Citroen has recently added previously missing features, like push-button start and ventilated front seats, which add a touch of premiumness to the experience. The Basalt is among the most practical and comfortable cars in its category, offering excellent space, very comfortable seats, a large boot, and a plush ride quality.
If youโre concerned about Citroenโs limited sales and service network, you can also consider the Honda Elevate. While this Honda car isnโt as spacious or comfortable as the Basalt, it still offers good value, and even the lower variants are well equipped.

I own a Wagon R and like its space, ease of driving, and entry/exit due to its tall, boxy doors and seats. I have back pain, often use a driver, and also use the back seat. While driving, I often deal with zigzag traffic in Bengaluru and donโt enjoy driving much. I test-drove the Nexon, but entry and exit were difficult due to the door shape. Which car should I buy as an upgrade, focusing on better safety, boot space, and modern features than the Wagon R, without spending too much?
You can consider upgrading to the Citroen Basalt. It checks most of your key boxes, easy access, a spacious cabin, and a large boot. Itโs comparable in size to the Hyundai Creta but is priced closer to the Tata Nexon. While it includes all essential features, it misses out on a few wow elements like a sunroof and push-button start.
