I currently drive a 2014 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, which feels underpowered for my driving style and returns only about 15 km/l on average. I’m looking for a mid-size SUV with good ride comfort, enough power for enjoyable highway overtakes, and decent fuel efficiency as a bonus. Safety is important. My budget is ₹12 lakh, and I’m considering the Citroen C3 Aircross, Citroen C3 Basalt X, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kyaq, and Tata Elevate. Please suggest the most suitable option.

From your shortlist, and looking at your requirements, we would recommend the Citroen Basalt X

Ride quality is a Citroen cars hallmark, and on the Basalt X, too, ride quality is excellent; the suspension does a superb job of soaking up all the bumps and ruts. As for overtaking on highways, the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine is decent, but if you want something very quick, opt for the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol instead, which is very quick and lively. As for fuel efficiency, you should be able to get mid-double-digit figures on highway runs. In our standard highway cycle, we got 15.01kpl and 9.87kpl in the city.

I’m 46, 6'1″ and 100 kg, and I finally want to unleash that college-boy biker dream (my parents always thought bikes were too dangerous). I am looking for a good-looking bike that fits my size for general city rides in Mumbai, with an on-road budget under ₹2.5 lakh - and no common Royal Enfield Classics or Bullets please! Thanks!

Since most of your usage is going to be inside Mumbai city - if not all of it - getting a bike that can comfortably tackle our unpredictable and bumpy roads will be our advice. In that regard, inside your budget, you should consider the Hero Xpulse 210 and the TVS Apache RTX 300. Both have superb suspension comfort and are tall, large machines which will accommodate your large frame with ease. Do bear in mind that the Xpulse has less power but is likely to be more fuel efficient than the RTX. A test ride of both should help you decide which is the better option for you.

Dear Autocar team, I am looking to buy a car for my family with a budget of up to ₹16.5 lakhs. I want to prioritise safety, mileage, and low maintenance cost. My daily running is 45 km, and once a week I do around 300 km on the highway, which totals over 2,000 km per month. I would like to ask whether I should choose an automatic or manual, CNG or petrol, and if petrol is considered safer than CNG. Also, which car and variant would you suggest? Thanks!

Since your running is quite high, a CNG car would do you well, however make sure there are easily accessible CNG pumps in your area. If there is a lot of traffic in your area and your driving requires a lot of gearshifts, then yes, an automatic makes sense; however, unfortunately, there aren't any mid-size CNG automatics available. Your best option here would be the Tata Punch CNG, which is available with an automatic gearbox and has a usable boot with dual CNG tanks tucked in below the floor. However, if you want to stick with a mid-size vehicle, then you would have to opt for a manual, and the Maruti Suzuki Victoris would be a good option here. It too has a clear boot as the CNG tank is below the floor.
