I am planning to buy a new petrol automatic car with a budget of ₹15-17 lakh. My usage is mostly city driving, and I prioritise efficiency over features and aesthetics, as long as the performance is good. I’m considering the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Skoda Kylaq. I also like the Toyota Hyryder for its hybrid efficiency, but it exceeds my budget. Which car would suit me best?

All the compact SUV options you've listed are powered by turbo-petrol engines, and since you are looking for efficiency, be warned, in typical city driving (stop-go conditions), these turbo-petrol engines aren't likely to be very efficient.

Also, these are very sensitive to the driving style and ambient conditions, which can drop the mileage down to single digits. Among the options you've listed, the Mahindra XUV3XO 1.2 Turbo (MPI) AT is likely to satiate your need for performance while offering a smoother and comfortable experience overall.

Another option you may consider is the Citroen Basalt X/Aircross X, provided there is a Citroen touchpoint in your city. However, if you want to keep the running costs down at all costs without sacrificing performance, go for the Tata Nexon EV 45.

I am looking for a car with a budget of ₹15 lakh. I drive about 500 km per month within the city and take long trips twice a year (~2,000 km each). I need a responsive engine, good boot space, and driving comfort for both city and highway driving. I have shortlisted Basalt X, Skoda Kushaq and the new Hyundai Venue. Your inputs will help me decide.

The Citroen Basalt meets your three requirements very well. It has the largest boot of the lot and has a responsive engine, and is very pleasing to drive with the most comfy ride too.

The only issue is that the company's dealer network is very small; if, however, this is not an issue for you, the Basalt would do just fine.

If this is a deal breaker, then look towards the Skoda Kylaq, the boot is larger, and in general, it is more enjoyable to drive when compared to the Hyundai Venue

My budget is ₹12-15 lakh. I need a car for a family of five, with priorities in this order: safety, reliability, comfort on bad roads, value for money, and highway comfort. I’m not keen on gimmicky features. I’m leaning toward the Citroen Aircross X but also considering the 3XO, Taisor, and Honda City.

We suggest going for the Citroen Aircross X or the Basalt as they are larger than the Mahindra 3XO, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor or even the Honda City.
Both are these Citroen cars are spacious, have excellent ride quality, and offer great comfort in the front and rear seats. The turbo petrol engine has ample power for city and highway use, and the massive boot adds to its practicality. While it misses out on a few features compared to the Mahindra XUV 3XO, it more than makes up for it with comfort and practicality, which perfectly suit your needs.

I drive around 600-800km per month, and my budget is ₹15 lakh. I want a car that’s over 4 meters long, but I can’t decide which one to buy. Please help me choose.

Considering your usage and budget, we suggest shortlisting the Citroen Basalt. If you’re looking for a manual variant, you can opt for the top Max trim, which now comes with all essential features.
Citroen has recently added previously missing features, like push-button start and ventilated front seats, which add a touch of premiumness to the experience. The Basalt is among the most practical and comfortable cars in its category, offering excellent space, very comfortable seats, a large boot, and a plush ride quality.
If you’re concerned about Citroen’s limited sales and service network, you can also consider the Honda Elevate. While this Honda car isn’t as spacious or comfortable as the Basalt, it still offers good value, and even the lower variants are well equipped.

I am planning to replace my 2015 Polo petrol. I drive less than 10 km daily, and once every three months, I take a 1,100 km trip to my hometown. We are a family of three, and my budget is around ₹14 lakh. I am looking for a car with premium features and a petrol automatic turbo engine.

If you have a Citroen touchpoint nearby, the Basalt X could be worth considering. It offers a fantastic turbo-automatic powertrain and an excellent ride-handling balance, something you will appreciate. Its new feature set is quite good as well.

The Hyundai i20 N Line is another well-equipped hatchback that is good to drive too.

I drive mainly in the city about twice a week, with very rare outstation trips. I want to buy a petrol or hybrid car. My main requirements are high safety, driving comfort, and good boot space. My budget is around 15 lakh.

If there is a Citroen touchpoint nearby, the fully-loaded Basalt X Turbo-AT is worth considering as it meets all your requirements. If you prefer something more conventional, the Maruti Victoris or the Grand Vitara Petrol is another option to consider.
