India’s passenger vehicle (PV) market in April 2026 saw Maruti Suzuki extend its lead at the top with 1,87,704 units, marking its highest-ever monthly domestic sales. The month also saw Tata Motors retain second place ahead of Mahindra, with the gap between the two remaining relatively close. Hyundai continued in fourth position, while Toyota and Kia held on to their positions in the mid-table. Lower down the order, volumes remained modest for MG Motor, Renault and Nissan.

Maruti Suzuki
Sales: 1,87,704 units, Change: 35 percent YoY
Maruti Suzuki reported domestic sales of 1,87,704 units in April 2026, marking its highest-ever monthly total. The carmaker continues to lead the market by a wide margin, with volumes supported by a broad mix of hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs.
The compact and mid-size segment accounted for 80,659 units, while small cars such as the Alto K10, WagonR and S-Presso contributed 16,066 units. The eVitara also contributed 2,006 units during the month, with around 85 percent of sales coming from the larger 61kWh battery variant.
Tata Motors
Sales: 59,000 units, Change: 30.5 percent YoY
Tata Motors retained second place in April 2026, with domestic passenger vehicle volumes rising 30.5 percent year on year to around 59,000 units, up from 45,199 units in April 2025. The sales continues to be supported by strong demand for models such as the Nexon and Punch, which remain key contributors. The company’s electric vehicle portfolio also recorded strong growth, with volumes rising 72.1 percent year on year.
Mahindra
Sales: 56,331 units, Change: 8 percent YoY
Mahindra posted domestic sales of 56,331 units in April 2026, up 8 percent year on year from 52,330 units in April 2025, although volumes were down 6.5 percent compared to 60,272 units in March 2026. The carmaker retained third place, with the gap to Tata remaining narrow and continuing the close contest seen in recent months. The company’s volumes remain driven by its SUV line-up, with models such as the Scorpio, Thar and XUV range driving sales.
Hyundai
Sales: 51,902 units, Change: 17 percent YoY
Hyundai recorded domestic sales of 51,902 units in April 2026, retaining fourth place. The company’s volumes continue to be led by core models such as the Creta, Venue and Exter, along with steady demand for its hatchbacks such as the Grand i10 Nios and i20. The Venue was a key contributor during the month, registering its highest-ever monthly domestic sales of 12,420 units. Hyundai attributed this performance in part to the model’s recent five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating.
Toyota
Sales: 30,159 units, Change: 21 percent YoY
Toyota recorded domestic sales of 30,159 units in April 2026, placing it fifth. Volumes were up 21 percent year on year from 24,833 units in April 2025, supported by steady demand for models such as the Innova HyCross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Fortuner. A key milestone during the month was the Innova HyCross crossing the 2 lakh cumulative sales mark. Toyota has also revealed its first EV for India, the Urban Cruiser EBella, with a price announcement expected soon.
Kia
Sales: 27,286 units, Change: 16 percent YoY
Kia recorded domestic sales of 27,286 units in April 2026, maintaining its position behind Toyota. The carmaker also reported its highest-ever April sales, supported by strong demand for its core models. The Seltos and Sonet remained key contributors, with both models crossing the 10,000-unit mark during the month, while the Carens Clavis continued to add to overall volumes.
JSW MG Motor
Sales: 6,018 units, Change: 3 percent YoY
JSW MG Motor reported domestic sales of 6,018 units in April 2026. The brand continues to operate at relatively lower volumes, with its portfolio split between electric and internal combustion models. The company is also set to launch the Majestor diesel SUV, for which bookings are currently open, with a price announcement expected soon.
Honda
Sales: 4,069 units, Change: 21 percent YoY
Honda recorded domestic sales of 4,069 units in April 2026, marking a 21 percent year-on-year increase, although volumes were down from 7,585 units in March 2026. The City, Amaze and Elevate make up Honda’s current portfolio in India. The company has also indicated plans to expand its line-up, with its first battery electric vehicle, the Honda 0 Alpha, currently undergoing pan-India testing ahead of its planned introduction.
Renault
Sales: 5,413 units, Change: 108 percent YoY
Renault posted domestic sales of 5,413 units in April 2026, marking a 108 percent year-on-year increase. Deliveries of the recently launched Duster began in April following its March launch. The brand’s sales are driven by the Kiger and Triber, the latter having received updates recently.
Nissan
Sales: 3,203 units, Change: 45.5 percent YoY
Nissan recorded domestic sales of 3,203 units in April 2026, marking a 45.5 percent year-on-year increase. The Magnite and the recently introduced Gravite MPV are the brand’s offerings in India.
