Tata Motors

8,543 units

Tata Motors remained the highest-selling EV maker in April 2026, with retail sales of 8,543 units, up 77 percent over April 2025 and 3.5 percent higher than March 2026.

The Nexon EV and Punch EV continue to account for a large share of Tata’s EV volumes, while the Harrier EV and Curvv EV have helped the brand expand into higher price segments. The Nexon EV was also the second best-selling EV in FY2026. Tata continues to benefit from one of the widest EV portfolios and charging ecosystems in the country.

Mahindra

5,413 units

EV retail sales rise 75 percent YoY in April 2026

Mahindra retailed 5,413 EVs in April 2026, registering a 64 percent year-on-year increase and a 3.2 percent rise over March 2026. This marks the second consecutive month in which Mahindra has outsold JSW MG Motor in EV retail sales. The company’s electric SUV line-up, including the BE 6, XEV 9e, XEV 9S and XUV 3XO EV, continues to drive growth. The XEV 9e was also the third best-selling EV in FY2026.

MG Motor

5,006 units

MG Motor retailed 5,006 EVs in April 2026, up 32.5 percent year on year, although volumes were down 2.6 percent compared to March. The Windsor EV is the brand's volume driver and was the best-selling EV in FY2026. The Comet EV and ZS EV also contribute to overall sales. MG’s premium EV line-up currently includes the Cyberster roadster and M9 MPV.

VinFast

1,232 units

EV retail sales rise 75 percent YoY in April 2026

VinFast crossed the 1,000-unit mark for the first time in India, retailing 1,232 EVs in April 2026. Volumes were up 78 percent over March 2026. The brand currently sells the VF6, VF7 and VF MPV 7 in India.

Maruti Suzuki

1,231 units

Maruti Suzuki retailed 1,231 e Vitara's in April 2026, up nearly 30 percent over March. This is the first time Maruti has crossed the 1,000-unit mark in monthly EV retail sales since entering the segment earlier this year.

It is understood that due to production constraints, the company has allocated around 2,000-2,500 units for the domestic market, while prioritising exports. The e Vitara was also the fifth most-exported SUV from India in FY2026.

Hyundai

516 units

EV retail sales rise 75 percent YoY in April 2026

Hyundai retailed 516 EVs in April, up 8.4 percent month on month, although volumes were down 31 percent compared to April 2025. The Creta Electric and Ioniq 5 currently make up Hyundai’s EV portfolio in India. The Ioniq 5 also recently received a facelift with larger 84kWh battery and up to 690km range.

BYD

469 units

BYD recorded retail sales of 469 EVs in April 2026, up 18 percent year on year and 13 percent higher than March. The company’s India line-up includes the Atto 3, Seal sedan, Sealion 7 SUV and eMax 7 MPV.

Kia

342 units

EV retail sales rise 75 percent YoY in April 2026

Kia retailed 342 EVs in April 2026. While volumes were down 25 percent compared to March, sales were significantly higher than the low base of 34 units recorded in April 2025. The Carens Clavis EV remains the brand’s primary volume driver in the segment. Kia also sells the EV6 and EV9 in India.

BMW

300 units

BMW remained the highest-selling luxury EV brand in April 2026 with 300 units, despite volumes declining compared to March. Sales were still more than double those recorded in April 2025. The month-on-month dip likely reflects the concentration of luxury vehicle purchases around the financial year-end in March, which typically results in lesser April numbers for premium brands.

Mercedes-Benz

104 units

EV retail sales rise 75 percent YoY in April 2026

Mercedes-Benz retailed 104 EVs in April, up 20 percent year on year. The recently introduced CLA Electric had crossed 400 bookings even before prices were announced. Mercedes-Benz has now revealed prices for the CLA Electric, which range between Rs 55 lakh and Rs 59 lakh.

Tesla

43 units

Tesla retailed 43 units in April 2026, with the Model Y continuing to be the brand’s only offering in India currently. Tesla recently introduced a new long-wheelbase version of the Model Y priced at Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The model gets a three-row configuration with a 2+2+2 seat layout and dual-motor all-wheel drive setup.

Volvo

41 units

Volvo retailed 41 EVs in April, slightly below the 44 units recorded in the same month last year. However, volumes were significantly higher than the 22 units retailed in March 2026, marking an 86 percent month-on-month increase. .
