I own a Pulsar 150 BS4 model and have ridden it around 50,000km with no problems so far. However, I now do long trips frequently, so I need another bike that is highway-friendly, pillion-friendly and luggage-friendly. I cannot compromise on comfort. My budget is around ₹3 lakh. Please also consider that I live in a rural area when it comes to maintenance and service.

There are multiple options available in your price bracket that will fit your use case. From the Royal Enfield lineup, you can consider the Classic / Bullet / Meteor 350 as well as the Scram 440. All  of these Royal Enfield bikes are comfortable for two-up riding, and considering the brand's widespread service network as well as the relative simplicity of these machines, they should be easy to live with.
If you have a Hero dealership around you, the Xpulse 210 warrants strong consideration. If there is a TVS bike showroom near you, the newly launched Apache RTX 300 adventure bike makes a compelling case for itself as well. I want a good 350cc retro-style bike that should also be comfortable for long hours of riding. Which bike should I choose and why? I am currently considering the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and the Honda CB350RS. Please suggest if there are any other options as well.

In the 350cc neo-retro bike space, our top picks are any of the Honda CB350 models and the Royal Enfield Bullet / Classic 350. The Hondas have a smooth, thumpy engine but have tall gearing which means you will need to change gears a little more often than on the Royal Enfields so you keep the engine in its optimum zone.
Coming to the Royal Enfield bikes, we would steer you toward the Bullet / Classic more than the Meteor 350 because their ergonomics are more neutral, which will be conducive to spending long hours in the saddle. I’m 27 (5′9″) and my father is 60 (5′11″) with a broad upper body. I want a bike (on-road budget under ₹2.4 lakh) that fits both our heights and body types. My riding will be mostly city and highway, with some casual off-roading and long trips. I’m considering the Yezdi ADV, Yezdi Roadster, Royal Enfield H’ness, TVS Apache RTX 300, and Hero Xpulse. Which of these suits both of us best?

Considering your use case, we would advise choosing between the TVS Apache RTX 300 and the Hero Xpulse 210. The RTX is an adventure bike, which will make it great on the road, while the Xpulse is a dualsport, which will be more capable during serious off-roading. 

If you want a more road-biased machine, then the Honda CB350 H'ness (or either of its siblings), the Royal Enfield Classic / Bullet 350 and the TVS Ronin would make for a good option.

Hi, I currently ride a 2019 Bajaj Avenger 220 Street and I really enjoy cruiser-style, laid-back riding. I’m considering upgrading to a new bike-TVS Ronin, Royal Enfield Meteor 350, Jawa Perak, or the Classic/Bullet 350. Budget is not a concern. My usage is mostly city riding with occasional highway trips. Please advise.

Between the options you've shortlisted, we'd advise choosing between the TVS Ronin and the Royal Enfield Classic / Bullet 350 for their laidback yet neutral riding positions and thumpy, torquey engines, as well as comfortable suspension setups. 

You should also look at the Honda CB350 models, as they have a similar feel and look to the Royal Enfield bikes, but have a more modern and lighter riding experience. 

Take a test ride of every machine you're considering before making your purchase.

I’m planning to buy a quick and comfortable bike for city rides. I’m 32, my daily commute is about 40 km with occasional long rides to hill stations, and my height is 5'7". The budget is around 2.5 lakhs. I currently own a Bajaj V15 150 cc. Its pillion seat was not very comfortable. So comfort for the rider and pillion is of utmost importance without compromise in the power.

Considering your requirements, we would recommend you take a look at the Royal Enfield Classic / Bullet 350 and the Honda CB350 models because they are comfortable for two-up riding and have decent power. If you are open to an adventure bike, then the Hero Xpulse 210 will make for a good buy as well, although keep in mind its seat is a little narrow, which can feel uncomfortable on longer journeys.
Take a test ride of all the machines you're considering with your pillion before choosing.

Hi Autocar, I'm looking to upgrade my 10-year-old Classic 350. I'm stuck between the Triumph Speed T4 and the new Scram 440. My daily commute is around 50 km, with the first half in city traffic and the rest on the highway. My main concerns are a comfortable ride and hassle-free maintenance. Both Triumph and RE showrooms are available in my city. Also, can you suggest any other bike in the same price range that offers comfort and reliability?

Between the two options you have shortlisted, we would steer you toward the Triumph Speed T4 because it is a more approachable and lighter machine inside the city and also has peppier performance.
You can also look at the Honda CB350 models because they are comfortable, reasonably fuel efficient and shouldn't be too expensive to maintain.
In a similiar vein, from the Royal Enfield 350cc range, the Hunter and the Bullet/Classic will be a good choice because all three are comfortable, smooth and reliable machines. We recommend a thorough test ride of all the options you shortlist before pulling the trigger.

I want to upgrade my almost 10 year old classic 350. I'm confused about the new Triumph T4, scram 440 and the Guerrilla 440. My budget is expandable and my daily commute is around 40 km. I want a comfortable bike with minimum maintenance. My ride will mostly city with occasional highway touring. My main priority is comfort and ride quality. Please suggest a good motorcycle.

Of the three bikes you have shortlisted, we would suggest you choose between the Triumph Speed T4 and the Royal Enfield Scram 440. These two will be more comfortable, although the Royal Enfield Guerrilla will give you more performance on the highway. 

Since you've already owned a Royal Enfield Classic, the latest Royal Enfield Bullet / Classic is also worth taking a good look at because they will offer you good comfort and ride quality - both of which are important to you. 

You can alternatively also look at the Honda CB350 models because they are comfortable, smooth, well-built and torquey. 

A test ride of your shortlisted bikes will help you decide which is the best option for you.

My wife and I both currently ride an 11-year-old Yamaha FZ. She is 5′3″ and I am 5′8″; both of us weigh over 90 kg. I don’t feel confident that this bike is safe and responsive enough — it needs a lot of throttle, is hard to manoeuvre in traffic, and handles pothole-ridden city roads poorly, especially for pillion riding. I also have back issues. What would be the ideal bike for us to upgrade to so we can ride together comfortably, mainly in the city with potholes and occasionally on the highway?

Bikes you should take a look at are the Royal Enfield Hunter / Classic / Bullet / Meteor 350, Scram 440, TVS Ronin and Honda CB350 trio. All have smooth, torque-rich engines, comfortable seats for two passengers and great suspension comfort. 

These factors will help you on both broken city roads and open highways. We would recommend you take a test ride of all machines with your wife so as to ascertain which one is best for you.

I own a Royal Enfield Thunderbird Twin Spark (2011) — it’s been very comfortable for my mostly city riding (under 200 km/week), but it’s now nearing the end of its life. Should I modify and re-register this bike for more comfort, or buy a newer model that offers medium seating height, strong road presence, and excellent comfort for daily urban commutes and occasional longer rides? Please suggest models under ₹2 lakh.

We'd suggest that you look at a newer bike, primarily due to ethanol-blended fuels that are likely to cause problems with older motorcycles, even if they have been refurbished. We suggest you look within the Royal Enfield family itself at options like the Meteor 350, Classic 350, or Bullet 350 to meet the requirements that you have highlighted

I want to upgrade from my CBZ Extreme (2012). I’m 6'2", 70 kg. My daily commute is 20 km, and I do occasional weekend trips with my wife. I’m looking for an adventure bike with decent mileage and better pillion comfort. My budget is ₹2.5 lakh. You can also suggest cruiser options.

For your usage, in the cruiser space, you can take a look at the Royal Enfield Classic / Bullet 350 as well as any of the three Honda CB350 models. All bikes have relaxed, smooth engines, spacious seats and great suspension comfort. 

In the ADV space, options like the TVS Apache RTX 300 and KTM 250 Adventure can be considered for their punchy - but not overwhelming - performance, spacious seats and comfortable ride quality, as well as luggage carrying capability. 

Take thorough test rides of all shortlisted options before you decide.
