We like

  • Comfortable ride

  • Practical and spacious

We don't like

  • Expensive

  • Weak mid-range performance

The new Brezza is based on the same Global-C platform as its predecessor, though Maruti now calls it the โ€˜TECTโ€™ platformโ€”more a marketing move than an actual change. This has led to confusion with the HEARTECT platform, though the Brezza continues with its solid base, previously rated 4 stars by GNCAP.
Major changes include new sheet metal parts like a re-profiled, flatter bonnet and a more radical front-end design. Headlamps are now sleeker with dual-DRLs, and the bumper is new with added cladding. The 16-inch alloys appear small due to the chunky wheel arches.
The rear sees redesigned quarter glass and new doors with a strong shoulder line running into the new tail-lamps. The Brezza badge replaces โ€˜Vitara Brezzaโ€™ on the boot. It retains the same dimensions as before, except for a 45mm height increase due to the shark fin antenna.

Clever packaging liberates more cabin space. The dashboard design is new but quality remains plasticky. A flatter dashboard and extended front seat travel improve roominess. Rear seat space is ample, though the mild-hybrid battery under the front seat limits foot extension for the left-rear passenger. Seats are comfy but soft, so long-distance support remains to be seen. Boot space is 328 litresโ€”adequate and expandable via a 60:40 split-folding seat.

The updated 1.5-litre K15C engine makes 103hp and 137Nmโ€”slightly lower than before. In the city, itโ€™s fine, but out on highways, overtaking can be tough due to a weak mid-range. Power delivery is smooth but laid-back.
Refinement is good, and the manual gearbox is smooth with a light clutch. The new 6-speed automatic is better than the old 4-speed but lacks urgency. Paddle shifters exist, but thereโ€™s not much performance to extract.

The new dual-injector tech boosts efficiency on paperโ€”20.15kpl for the manual and 19.80kpl for the auto. However, real-world figures for the manual (10.47kpl city, 15.89kpl highway) fall short. Aggressive regenerative braking and dulled throttle response hurt efficiency. The 5-speed manual also limits highway economy.

City comfort is a strength. The soft suspension soaks up rough roads well, and high-speed stability is good. However, thereโ€™s some pitch and the steering doesnโ€™t self-centre well, typical of many Marutis.

The feature list has grown significantly. The Brezza now gets a sunroof, connected car tech, ambient lighting, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen with Arkamys tuning. It stands out with features like a head-up display (HUD) and a clear 360-degree camera with dynamic guidelines. Kits like a branded audio system and cooled seats are still missing however. Safety is improved too with six airbags and ESP now standard across both manual and auto variants.

The Maruti Brezza starts at a base price of Rs 8.69 lakh while the top-spec ZXi+ AT costs Rs 13.98 lakh, the bigger engine disqualifies it from tax benefits and thus potentially a more affordable price. On the whole performance is dull, but the Brezza remains comfortable, well-equipped, and ideal for city useโ€”true to its โ€˜city-bred SUVโ€™ claim.

My 80 to 90 percent running is in the city. I want an automatic car, and I am confused between the Maruti Brezza AT, Honda Amaze CVT, and Hyundai Venue DCT.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza AT will be the best pick for your usage. The Brezzaโ€™s smooth engine and automatic gearbox are well-suited to city use, and what also strengthens the Brezzaโ€™s case is its comfortable low-speed ride.
Do note, the Brezza feels out of its comfort zone on highways where the engine feels lazy, and the gearbox comes across as slow. A Hyundai Venue DCT is more well-rounded in that sense, with punchier performance than a Brezza.
The Honda Amaze CVT also makes a good pick for the city, though it's down on space compared to both compact SUV alternatives.

I want to buy an automatic car, and 90% of my driving will be in the city. I am confused between the Maruti Brezza AT, Honda Amaze CVT, and the new Hyundai Venue DCT.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the most spacious and practical of the three cars you are considering. It also has the best ride quality. However, the Brezza's 1.5-litre petrol engine is not as refined, and neither does it have the smoothness from its 6-speed torque converter unit.
The Hyundai Venue is the most stylish of the three cars, and its cabin is also the most upmarket. However, the DCT, while being smooth, is not as good as the CVT. Since you will be driving most of the time in the city, a CVT gearbox will offer the smoothest experience.
The Honda Amaze is the most compact of the three cars, so if you want a spacious interior, the Amaze won't be the best choice but the 1.2-litre petrol engine is smooth and refined, and the CVT gearbox is also very good. Where the Amaze lacks is in multimedia and infotainment, and being a sedan, it isn't the most practical.  Our recommendation would be the Honda Amaze as it is the most convenient to drive in the city. The space might not be as much as an SUV, but for city driving, it is ideal.

I am planning to buy an automatic car. My 90% running is on the highway. I am confused between the Hyundai Venue DCT and the Maruti Brezza AT.

Both the Hyundai Venue DCT and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza AT are good cars to drive around town, but since 90% of your running will be on the highway, we would recommend going for the Venue DCT based primarily on engine performance.
The Venueโ€™s 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine has enough torque and punch for quick overtakes. The DCT gearbox also keeps the engine in the right rev band to make the most of that torque.
The Brezza uses a larger 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is smooth and refined, but because it does not have a turbocharger, it lacks torque compared to the Venue. On city runs and steady cruising, it performs just fine, but when you want a quick burst of acceleration, especially for overtakes or long gradients, it does feel less eager and takes more time to respond.

Weโ€™re planning to buy a 5-seater family car that will largely be used by senior citizens. Ease of getting in and out is a major consideration, so weโ€™re avoiding cars that sit too low or are excessively tall. It will be chauffeur-driven and wonโ€™t be used daily, which makes cabin comfort, suspension, and rear-seat convenience key priorities. It will mostly be used in the city; highway use will be very limited. Budget is approximately โ‚น15 lakh. What do you recommend?

There are lots of models that fit within your budget. However, we'd trim the list of probables to the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Sierra and Kia Carens Clavis, each of which offers easy entry and exit.
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the smallest and most affordable of the three options, but scores well for its comfortable seats and good ride quality. It isn't the best 5-seat vehicle, but it can be used as one for intra-city journeys without discomfort.
Tata's Sierra is one of the hottest cars in the market right now, and suits your needs for its plush suspension and roomy interior. There's enough space at the back for three to sit in comfort. The base petrol engine will suit your usage.
The Kia Carens Clavis is also a good option. The rear section of the cabin is spacious, and the inclusion of a third row of seats gives plenty of flexibility, too. You can consider the naturally aspirated petrol engine.

I am confused between an automatic and a manual car. I have shortlisted the Amaze automatic and the Brezza manual. This is my first car. Which one should I buy?

If you are a new driver, we would recommend you go for an automatic car as it will make your driving experience much easier. The Honda Amaze CVT uses a smooth automatic gearbox that works well with the engine. The Amaze is a pleasant package with ample room within a small and user-friendly size.
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza does offer more cabin space and more ground clearance within a similar footprint. The Brezza's relatively high seating also helps give good visibility and adds to confidence levels. The Brezza's manual gearbox is nice in its own right, with easy gearshifts and a light clutch. However, the experience will not be as convenient as an automatic like on the Honda Amaze CVT.

I currently own a 3-year-old Wagon R petrol 1.2 ZXi. I am looking to upgrade to a compact SUV, with top priority given to space, safety and reliable service. My budget is around โ‚น10 to 12 lakh on-road. My average running is about 500km per month, with 70% city driving. Please suggest a car and the right variant.

Since you are coming from a Maruti Suzuki, you should consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. It is spacious, comes with safety features like 6 airbags and traction control, and being a Maruti car, it will be reliable and stress-free to live with.
The Brezza is powered by a refined 103hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The Brezza Petrol-MT has a claimed mileage of 17.80kpl, while the petrol-AT has a claimed mileage of 19.80kpl. Since your running is mainly in the city, going for the automatic makes more sense as it will be easier to drive and more convenient.
Given your budget, you should go for the Brezza VXI AT, which is priced at Rs 12.56 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Hello, firstly thanks to Autocar for guiding and helping common folk over the years! Kudos! I was planning to buy a car for City use (Mumbai), car to be primarily driven by parents, daily drive would be maximum 10km, need an automatic. Constraints - Parking space is tight, so planned to go with sub 4m cars, since it'll be for parents needed easier ingress and egress without pressure on knees. Narrowed to Brezza. Is it a good choice? If not what alternate cars can be considered? Furthermore, when is the facelift for Brezza due? There is no urgency as such to buy, what do you suggest should we go ahead now, or wait out for the facelift? Thanks!

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is a good choice for your requirements. It is a spacious, practical, and compact SUV that is easy to drive in the city. The 1.5-litre petrol engine lacks punch and delivers mediocre performance. But it's smooth and refined and, coupled with a fairly responsive automatic gearbox, does the job for city driving quite well.

More importantly, the Brezza is easy to get in and out of thanks to wide-opening doors and a comfortable step-in height.

The Brezza is also a very reliable car, and Maruti's service network is very strong, so you won't go wrong there. The facelifted Brezza is expected to be launched later this year, though we are not aware of an exact timeline.

The other alternative cars you could consider are the new Hyundai Venue, which is today the best overall compact SUV, or the Kia Syros, which is extremely spacious, especially in the back seat.

Asked by: Chetan Raoon Feb 10, 2026

Which is the best automatic petrol SUV to buy today with a reasonably good average (15 km/l or more) under โ‚น15 lakhs?

There are not many petrol automatic cars, at any price point, that would do upwards of 15kpl these days. Turbocharged cars, especially, require extremely careful driving to achieve high fuel efficiency numbers, and the automatic gearbox reduces these chances, as the gear shifts are not in your control. If fuel efficiency is your ultimate concern, we would recommend a good naturally aspirated petrol engine, in a small, relatively light car. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.2 petrol AMT is a good option, but its automated manual gearbox is not very smooth, and its engine is not very powerful. As a trade-off, you could also try the Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.5 petrol AT, which has more power and a smoother torque converter automatic. But will deliver slightly lower - but still very good - fuel economy.

My Volkswagen Polo is 15 years old, but I cannot use it in Delhi NCR due to the 15-year age limit. The car is in good condition. I am 64 years old and drive only short distances, and I donโ€™t want to invest much in a new car. After driving a VW, I feel other cars arenโ€™t as good as the Polo. What would be the best option - buy a used Polo or invest in a new car? I am not willing to spend more than โ‚น6-7 lakh. Please advise. Also, is there any dealer who can offer โ‚น1-1.5 lakh for my car as part exchange for a good, senior-citizen-friendly vehicle? I have 25 years of driving experience and typically drive around 2.5 km at a time.

It is very sad that you're having to retire your well-maintained Polo due to the 15-year rule in Delhi NCR. Since you have a budget of Rs 7 lakhs, we'd advise you to get a 2020-21 Maruti Brezza or Toyota Urban Cruiser, both of which are smooth, well-built cars. Their seating position is high, visibility is good, and controls are light, which makes them very user-friendly.

Also, try finding the newest possible example, which will ensure that you drive the vehicle for 9 or 10 years before it reaches the 15-year age-limit.

For your outgoing car, you could consider getting in touch with used-car platforms such as Spinny; they'll do the paperwork, and should get you a good price.
