EV sales October 2025 Tata MG Mahindra

While the overall passenger vehicle market saw record dispatches of over 5,00,000 units in October 2025, retail sales of EVs also recovered after witnessing a month-on-month fall in September (16,354 units). In October, 17,783 EVs were delivered across India, a 56 percent jump from 11,444 units a year ago and a 9 percent month-on-month growth.

October was the first full month of sales after GST 2.0 kicked in on September 22, facilitating intensive price cuts enabled by the lowering of the tax rate on small cars from 28 percent to 18 percent and the withdrawal of the compensation cess. The 5 percent GST on EVs remains untouched, which essentially means that the once-substantial price gap between ICE PVs and EVs, particularly the entry-level models, has narrowed significantly.

October was also the second month of sales for the two new players in the EV space – Tesla and Vinfast. Let’s take a closer look at how each carmaker performed in October in terms of their EV sales.

Tata Motors

Sales: 7,118 units, Change: +8 percent YoY

Tata Motors retailed 7,118 units last month, an increase of 8 percent year on year (YoY) from 6,608 units and 7 percent from the previous month’s 6,634 units. This is the company’s second-highest monthly score after 7,503 units in August 2025 and gives it a market-leading share of 40 percent for October. While the recently launched Harrier EV has helped revive demand for Tata Motors, the Punch EVNexon EV and Curvv EV continue to make up the bulk of its EV sales.

JSW MG Motor India

Sales: 4,497 units, Change: +61 percent YoY

MG Motor India sold 4,497 units last month, a strong 61 percent YoY increase and a more understandable 8 percent growth over September’s 4,159 units. This gives MG a 25 percent market share in the EV space. MG, which has eaten into Tata Motors’s market share with Windsor EV and its BaaS option, has recently expanded its portfolio with the M9 MPV, which marks its foray into the premium EV segment, and the Cyberster electric roadster. Both models are retailed through the new MG Select network.

Mahindra

Sales: 3,867 units, Change: +303 percent YoY

Mahindra is seeing strong demand for its two born-electric SUVs – the BE 6 and XEV 9e – and it also has the XUV400 in its EV portfolio. The company delivered 3,867 units last month, a 303 percent increase on a low year-ago base of 957 XUV400s, and up 11 percent over September’s 3,490 units. This performance gives Mahindra a 22 percent market share in October.

Kia

Sales: 655 units, Change: +1,293 percent YoY

Kia, ranked ninth a year ago, has risen to become the No. 4 EV maker in October 2025 with best-ever monthly retail sales of 655 units. That’s a 24 percent increase from 528 units in September and a 1,293 percent jump from 47 units a year ago, giving Kia a 4 percent market share in the EV space, ahead of BYD India and Hyundai. This upward movement can be attributed to the growing demand for the locally made Carens Clavis EV. Kia’s EV portfolio also comprises the EV6 and EV9, which are imported as completely built units (CBUs).

BYD India

Sales: 560 units, Change: -6 percent

With 560 units last month, BYD India slipped to fifth rank on the EV sales table, down 6 percent from September’s best-ever monthly score of 595 units. BYD’s Indian arm sells the all-electric Atto 3 SUV, the Seal sedan, the eMax 7 MPV and the Sealion 7 SUV.

Hyundai

Sales: 437 units, Change: +1,224 percent

Hyundai sold 437 EVs last month, up by 20 percent from September’s 364 units and a whopping 1,224 percent from October 2024’s 33 units, when it only had the Ioniq 5 on sale. on sale. This gives Hyundai a 2 percent share of the EV market. Following the launch of the Creta Electric in January 2025, monthly EV sales had risen from 775 units in February to 905 units in March. However, since then, the demand for the electric avatar of India’s bestselling midsize SUV has tapered.

Vinfast

Sales: 131 units

The Vietnamese EV maker, Vinfast, which has just begun sales of the locally assembled VF6 and VF7 EVs, is ranked eighth, delivering 131 units to customers last month, as per Vahan statistics.

Luxury EV sales in October 2025

The luxury EV sales have fared better year on year but poorer on a month-on-month basis. According to the Vahan data, the cumulative sales of the eight carmakers, at 467 units, are up 33 percent from October 2024’s 353 units but down 14 percent from 541 units in September.

BMW India

Sales: 303 units

BMW India sold 303 units in October – 30 fewer units than it did in September (333 units). This performance, nevertheless, helps it retain the No. 7 rank among the 15 carmakers in the EV space and makes it the luxury EV market leader with a 65 percent share.

Mercedes Benz India

Sales: 90 units

Mercedes-Benz India retailed 90 units in October 2025, making it the No. 2 player in the luxury EV space with a 19 percent share. However, this total is a 17 percent decline from 108 units in September and a 44 percent drop from 162 units a year ago.

Tesla India

Sales: 40 units

Tesla India, which has received over 600 bookings for the Model Y, delivered 40 units of the EV to customers in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Gurugram last month and is currently ranked No. 3 among the luxury OEMs. Over the past two months, the American EV maker has sold 109 units of the Model Y, which is imported as a CBU product.

Meanwhile, Volvo India delivered 20 EVs last month, down 17 percent from September’s 24 units.

Cumulative EV sales in the first 10 months of 2025, at 1,44,352 units, have surpassed those of 2024 (99,688 units). Given the current momentum, expect EVs to register record retail sales of around 1,70,000-1,80,000 units this year.
