MG EV sales in India
MG EVs have been on sale in India since January 2020
MG Motor India’s EV innings began in January 2020 with the ZS EV. While the e-SUV was joined by the much smaller Comet EV in April 2023, it wasn’t until the launch of the Windsor in September 2024 that MG’s EV sales started showing a major uptick. In May 2025, this Tata Nexon EV rival received a longer-range version called the Windsor Pro.
Moreover, MG, which had set the target of EVs accounting for 70-80 percent of its sales, has announced that electric cars now contribute over 70 percent to monthly volumes. In fact, MG says its share of India’s EV market has risen to 35 percent from 26 percent at the end of 2024. From April to September 2025, MG delivered 26,640 EVs, a 220 percent increase over the previous year’s corresponding period.
This year, the company forayed into the premium EV segment with its MG Select portfolio, comprising the Cyberster roadster and the M9 MPV. While neither of these expensive models is likely to contribute big numbers to MG’s sales, they are meant to showcase the brand’s all-electric luxury aspirations.
