I've been using Kia Syros from a year and I love the size, the rich cabin and how all of its electronics work fuss free. We've driven for around 5000 km in a year which understandably isn't a lot. I plan to take the car to intercity/state in future. Now, I'm considering an EV Car strictly for city use and I've narrowed down to MG Comet for its size. I'm not worried about pricing as I'm certain what I'm getting. My question is, if there is any small car launch planned during the next 6 months or should I go ahead with Comet? How's MG's Battery Health Calibration done? I haven't seen any elaborate discussion in ranking or refinement on which brand does best/worst battery optimization.

The MG Comet is a genuinely well-packaged city EV - its compact size, tight turning circle and ease of parking make it ideal for urban use, and it is one of the few cars that truly embraces the city-car brief. MG’s battery management system is well-calibrated for Indian conditions, and the brand has not faced any widespread battery health or calibration issues in the market.

There is no clear “best” or “worst” brand in battery optimisation – most mainstream manufacturers now have robust BMS systems, and the differences are marginal in real-world ownership. The bigger factors are usage patterns, charging discipline and thermal management, all of which the Comet should handle well. Given your low annual running and city-focused brief, the Comet is a sensible and well-timed purchase.

VinFast has still not officially confirmed the VF3 for India, which is a micro electric SUV very popular in its home market, Vietnam. Besides that, there is nothing scheduled to be launched that is as convenient and compact as the Comet.

I currently drive a Kia Carens iMT diesel, with monthly running of around 1,000km. About 820km, or 82%, is in the city, while the remaining 180km is on the highway. Most of my city trips are short, often just 2-4 km, with speeds generally below 40-50kph. The car is chauffeur-driven six days a week and usually carries my family of five: my wife, mother, son and daughter. My priorities are clear: excellent ride comfort over Chennai's potholes and broken roads, very comfortable seating for five adults, especially in the second row, minimal lateral and fore-aft body movement over bad roads, good low-speed manoeuvrability, a quiet and smooth drivetrain, low running and total ownership costs over five years, and enough boot space for shopping and family luggage. My son is already 5'7" at 14 and is still growing, so I don't want to compromise on his seating comfort. My maximum budget is Rs 27 lakh on-road in Chennai. I don't particularly value ADAS, sunroofs or touchscreen-heavy controls and prefer physical controls and a car that is fundamentally comfortable rather than gadget-heavy. I am not really looking for a seven-seater. I want a car that can carry five people in genuine, long-term comfort, with the flexibility of a seven-seater when required. Given that 82% of my usage is short-distance urban driving, ride quality, low-speed comfort, easy manoeuvrability, second-row space and low running costs matter more to me than outright performance or highway dynamics. Which car would suit me best?

Still, we'd recommend you consider it, as it is genuinely a well-rounded option.

Help me choose the right car for my usage. Please be practical and challenge my assumptions. My situation: I am 31 and work as a software developer. I currently work from home in Balsane, Dhule, but I am moving to Mumbai around March. My wife and I are expecting a baby in February. My parents live in a village where local transport is poor. The AC is usually on, and on long trips, the car will have my wife, baby, and luggage. Budget: Rs. 6-9 lakh on-road. I am willing to spend more only if it is genuinely worth it. Shortlist: - Tiago XE Petrol - Punch Pure+/Smart Petrol - Punch Pure+/Smart CNG - Brezza LXi turbo-petrol Please tell me: 1. Which one should I buy and why? 2. Petrol vs CNG for my usage? The CNG premium is around Rs. 1 lakh, and the nearby village pump may open around Diwali, but this is not guaranteed. 3. What real-world mileage can I expect with the AC on? 4. The Brezza LXI Turbo is far superior to the Punch and Tiago as far as smoothness, performance, and cabin space are concerned. It is also backed by Maruti's widespread support network, and the ownership experience is likely to be fuss-free. The on-road cost of the Brezza LXI will fall within your Rs 9 lakh budget, and even though you might miss a few features, it still feels worth opting for. Alternatively, you could also consider the Maruti Dzire VXI MT for its large boot, comfy ride and strong fuel efficiency.

Go for the Toyota Innova HyCross non-hybrid. Your priorities are space, comfort and a good engine, and the HyCross delivers on all three. It is one of the most spacious cars in the segment, with a genuinely usable third row and a comfortable ride that makes it an excellent family car. The petrol engine is smooth, refined and well suited to your running of under 1,000 km a month, where the hybrid premium is harder to justify.The Mahindra XUV 7XO is a strong alternative with a more powerful engine and a more feature-rich cabin, but the HyCross has the edge on space, comfort and long-term ownership experience.The Hyundai Alcazar and Kia Seltos are good cars, but they do not offer the same level of space or comfort, and the Renault Duster is more of a driver's car than a family car. The Toyota car mentioned above is the car you will be happiest with after five years of ownership.
