The XUV 3XO’s styling is polarising. Vertically-oriented headlights, C-shaped daytime lights and a sharply cut bumper lend the 3XO its distinctive face. In profile, the 3XO looks muscular but there’s no escaping how brutally the tail has been chopped to keep length within 4 metres. Tail end styling makes the XUV 3XO look large and substantial.
8
Inside, the XUV 3XO sports a modern dashboard with cabin quality being a highlight. The dual-screen setup—a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster are among the other items that do much for the look inside the cabin.
The front seats offer a good view and decent comfort, although larger adults may find the seat sides tight. At the back, there’s class-leading shoulder room and enough room for three passengers.
Luggage space is reasonable with 295 litres on offer. The low floor and high loading sill do make it hard to load and unload heavy items.
8
The XUV 3XO comes with three engines: a 1.5-litre diesel, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.2-litre direct injection turbo-petrol (T-GDi). All can be had with 6-speed manuals while the petrols are also offered with 6-speed automatic transmissions. The diesel is available with an AMT automatic.
The diesel is smooth and has strong torque for highway driving. The T-GDi petrol is refined and powerful, with a smooth automatic gearbox. The base petrol is refined in its own right and does not disappoint on performance either. Manual gearboxes are decent, though the shifts aren’t the smoothest.
8
The Mahindra XUV 3XO's 1.5-litre diesel is its most fuel efficient engine option, returning an ARAI-certified mileage of 21.2kpl when had with the AMT gearbox and 20.06kpl with manual.
The petrol T-GDI offers an official 20.1kpl (manual) and 18.2kpl (auto), while the petrol MPFI has an official test economy of 18.89kpl (manual) and 17.96kpl (auto).
9
Ride quality is slightly firm but the XUV 3XO handles rough roads well. Ground clearance is good and the suspension deals with the rough stuff well. The steering varies with drive modes. Grip is solid and braking is confident.
9
The XUV 3XO is packed with features, even in lower variants. Top versions get a 360-degree camera, Harman Kardon sound system, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, and a 65W USB charger. It also has a segment-first electric parking brake with auto-hold. The only big miss is ventilated front seats.
Safety is strong, with six airbags, ESC, three-point seatbelts for all, and ISOFIX mounts standard. Higher trims add a tyre pressure monitor and blind view monitor. ADAS features like adaptive cruise control and emergency braking work well but the controls are buried in the menus.
8
Priced from Rs 7.49 lakh, the XUV 3XO offers great value with more features than its rivals. Top-end models are on the pricey side but the performance on offer make them worth the stretch. With a roomy cabin, long list of features, strong engines, and keen pricing, the XUV 3XO is a well-rounded package that’s hard to ignore.

Questions you may find useful
Which car to buy under 15 lakhs? EV/CNG/Diesel/Petrol, and which model to go for?
Get the Maruti Suzuki Fronx petrol. It fits under Rs. 15 lakh easily, is very easy to drive in the city, and gives good real-world mileage, so your running costs stay low without the fuss of CNG or charging. Maruti’s huge service network also keeps ownership simple for many years. The flip side is it isn’t very exciting to drive, and the rear isn’t the widest, but as a first, no-drama car, it just works. If your daily drive is mostly city and you have a private parking spot with power, an EV will save the most per km. Look at the Tata Tiago EV for the cheapest entry, or the Tata Punch EV for a more solid small SUV feel. If you do long highway trips or 1,000+ km a month, diesel makes sense - the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO diesels are the pick. If you only want rock-bottom fuel costs and don’t mind slower performance, CNG works - Maruti Wagon R CNG for city or Ertiga if you need 7 seats.
My daily ride is 120 to 150km, mostly on Highway 90%, suggest a good car within 20 lakh. Should I buy a diesel or a hybrid petrol?
While hybrids are a great option and do deliver maximum mileage, in your budget of Rs 20 lakh, you will only get a base model variant of the three hybrids in this price range, namely the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Grand Vitara, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Hence, we would recommend going with a diesel, of which there are many options within your budget. If you want a larger vehicle, we would recommend the Kia Seltos diesel, which you will get in the mid-spec HTK (O) and HTX variants within your budget. It's a modern SUV with great space and comfort, and a lot of the latest features and tech. Its diesel engine is not the strongest, but it is very smooth and efficient, and can be had with a stutter-free torque converter automatic gearbox. If you don't mind a smaller car, go for the Mahindra XUV 3XO, whose diesel engine is even more powerful than the one in the Seltos. It will feel stronger out on the highway, helped by its smaller size and lighter weight. It's got a spacious cabin and a comfortable and stable ride that feels like an SUV from a segment above. Do note, however, that its boot is not that large, in case you travel with luggage frequently, and it uses an AMT-type automatic, which isn't very smooth. Best of all, however, you can get a fully loaded version within your budget.
Hi, Many thanks for your time and effort in answering the question. I want to buy an automatic car between Rs 11-12 lakh. The car should be comfortable for five adults. Running would be 70% in the city (Delhi), with 3-4 occasional intercity vacation trips annually, and my average monthly running is around 500 Kms. I am considering the Hyundai i20 Asta (o) ivtech, Kia Sonet HTK+(O) DCT and Sonet HTX DCT. If you have any better suggestions, then please give them.
The Hyundai i20 Asta (O) IVT would be the recommendation here. Your priorities are comfort for five adults, predominantly city driving and a smooth automatic gearbox. The i20 delivers very well on all three counts. Its rear seat is among the roomiest in the premium hatchback segment, the IVT automatic is exceptionally smooth in Delhi's stop-start traffic, and the overall driving experience is relaxed and refined. It is also easier to drive and park than an SUV in crowded urban conditions. The Kia Sonet HTK+(O) DCT and HTX DCT offer a more powerful turbo-petrol engine and a higher seating position, but the rear seat isn't as accommodating for three adults, and the DCT transmission isn't as seamless in heavy traffic as Hyundai's IVT.If you want an SUV, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza AT and Mahindra 3XO AT are the alternatives worth considering. Both have wider cabins and are among the best five-seaters in this price bracket. Importantly, both use conventional automatic gearboxes that feel smoother and more natural in everyday city driving than the Sonet's DCT. The Brezza scores well on refinement, efficiency and ease of ownership, while the 3XO offers a more premium cabin and stronger performance.
I want to purchase an SUV, and my budget is 15 lakhs maximum. My daily drive is around 10-15 kms in the city, and occasionally I go out of the city, like once in a quarter, and that too, maximum up to 300 kms. The vehicle should give decent mileage. It should be safe as well. Kindly suggest a few options.
Go for the Hyundai Venue. Given your limited usage, there's no need to spend extra for the diesel engine, and either of the petrol engines should be sufficient. The 1.2-litre engine is perfect for your largely city use, with sufficient power and a light clutch and gear shift. However, for your highway trips, it might feel underpowered, and in that case, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol is a better bet, and even comes with a DCT automatic option. However, this engine isn't as fuel-efficient as the 1.2.Being one of the newest SUVs in the compact segment, the Venue comes with the latest tech, high-quality interiors, good space and good comfort too. With your budget of Rs 15 lakh, you can go up to the HX8 variant, which has a lot of features and tech. This includes safety features, and you'll be reassured by the fact that it has scored 5 stars in Bharat NCAP's crash tests. The only downside is that it's not particularly exciting to drive compared to some rivals.Speaking of which, alternatives include the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO, which have also scored 5-star NCAP ratings, but aren't as fuel-efficient as the Venue. Or conversely, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Fronx, which are more fuel efficient, but haven't yet been tested by Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP. Overall, we think the Venue is the best bet for you.
I am looking to upgrade my 19-year-old i10 Era and am seeking a vehicle that offers a great blend of comfort and longevity for the next 15 years. My budget is 12-16 lakh. While I am happy with my current car, I need something with more power for overtaking and lower maintenance requirements. Although my current annual usage is low (approximately 2,000-3,000km), I expect this to increase with a new car. My primary use will be city driving in Kochi with three passengers, but I need enough space and comfort for occasional long drives and airport runs. I am prioritising value for money. My current picks: Tata Punch EV (Empowered S+) - around 14 lakh Pros: The instant torque and overtaking performance are appealing. Shock absorbers are also nice. There are features (but not sure how much they will help me). Concerns: Tata’s quality control, long-term service consistency, and uncertainty around EV resale value and technology depreciation. Mahindra XUV 3XO (MX2 Pro TC Automatic) around ₹12 lakh Pros: Feels like a proper, spacious SUV. Cons: Lower fuel efficiency and higher RTO costs compared to an EV. Skoda Kylaq (Signature TC Automatic) - around 12.75 lakh Pros: Excellent reviews for handling and engine performance. Cons: Lower fuel efficiency and higher RTO costs compared to an EV. Citroen Aircross (X You Manual) - around 10 lakh Pros: Excellent reviews for ride comfort and handling. Cons: Manual transmission and concerns about the brand's service network. Overall, what should I choose between a manual, an automatic and an EV? Are automatics a no-brainer these days? Is the Punch EV a good option now?
Given your priorities of comfort, longevity, low maintenance and value for money, the Skoda Kylaq Signature AT would be the recommendation from your shortlist. The Tata Punch EV is actually one of Tata's more sorted products, and the instant torque will certainly make overtaking effortless. However, if you're planning to keep the car for the next 15 years, there are still some unknowns around long-term battery technology, resale values and how EVs will evolve over such a long ownership period. It makes sense as an EV, but perhaps not as the safest long-term bet.The Mahindra XUV 3XO offers more space and feels like a bigger vehicle, but its fuel efficiency is likely to be lower than the Kylaq's, and it doesn't feel quite as polished from behind the wheel. The Kylaq strikes a sweet spot. Its turbo-petrol engine provides the performance you're looking for, the torque-converter automatic is smooth and reliable, and the car feels well engineered. It is also likely to be easier to live with over the long term than an electric car if your goal is to keep it for 15 years. As for manual versus automatic, for a predominantly city-driven car in 2026, an automatic is increasingly becoming the default choice. Modern torque-converter automatics such as the one in the Kylaq are smooth, reliable and remove much of the fatigue associated with urban driving.
I am planning to buy a new car with a budget of around Rs. 12 lakh. I am confused between the Tata Punch EV (40 kWh), Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Skoda Kylaq, and Mahindra XUV 3XO. Could you please suggest the best option for my daily usage? At present, I own a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and my monthly running is approximately 3,100 km. My primary concern is reducing my monthly running costs. Considering my usage pattern and priorities, which car would you recommend?
For your relatively high running and goal of reducing running costs, a diesel is probably your best pick. At 3,100 km a month, diesel will cut your per-km cost far more than petrol, and you can get a well equipped manual within Rs. 12 lakh within your shortlist. The Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel and Kia Sonet diesel are booth good options. Bear in mind, however, that you will have to take a few extra steps for diesel engine maintenance, such as occasional Adblue top-ups and high-speed runs to regenerate the DPF.The XUV 3XO has the stronger engine, more spacious cabin and comfier suspension, whereas the Kia Sonet offers better mileage, interior quality and refinement. Another good option is the Hyundai Venue diesel, which is the best all rounder, and offers a fair mix between the XUV 3XO and Sonet. However, it is more expensive, and you will have to stretch your budget slightly to get some features. The Brezza is a good option too, but there is no diesel, and while you can opt for CNG, you will experience a power deficit in the process. Downsides of CNG include long waits at the pump, and a CNG tank that compromises boot space. If you are fine with this, it's a good alternative, but bear in mind, there is a facelift of the Brezza coming out soon, so it might be worthwhile waiting for that. The Punch EV 40kWh would be the absolute cheapest to run, but will push the limits of your budget and only makes sense if you have home charging. All considered, the XUV 3XO or Sonet diesel are your best options.
I have been driving Datsun Go for almost 7 years now and I feel it's time for an upgrade. I drive around 400 km every month and I may take it out for outstation trips maybe once or twice every year once I upgrade. Datsun Go had a peppy engine and I would love something similar. Mileage is important but it can be a tradeoff if there are no options available. I am looking for a sporty looking feature rich car in the budget of 10-13 lakh. I can extend it by a lakh more if it is worth it. Please suggest all types of cars considering my priority for space, safety and drive comfort.
Pick the Mahindra XUV 3XO; it gives you the most fun performance in your budget while staying safe and comfy for city runs and the odd highway trip. Pick the 1.2 MPFi which feels eager and makes it easy to manage traffic and highway overtakes and is also more efficient than the direct injection 1.2 litre engine, do note it still will not be as efficient as something like the Hyundai Venue. Ride comfort is mature for broken roads, steering is light in town yet steady at speed, and the cabin now has the space you wanted. You also get a proper safety kit and a solid body, so it feels reassuring compared to your Datsun. Features are modern and the cabin looks sporty enough without going over the top.As an option consider the the Nissan Magnite, its turbo engine is peppy and it is a great value pick with good features and space, and is safe and has a comfortable ride too and will return a better mileage than the Mahindra car.
I have been driving a Maruti Suzuki Swift for the past six years and have covered long distances across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The car has performed exceptionally well so far. However, during my most recent trip to Arunachal Pradesh, I felt that a more powerful engine would be better for such journeys. I am now considering the Mahindra XUV 3XO and the Kia Sonet, but I am a bit confused about the pros and cons of each. Could you please help me understand which of the two would be the better choice for my requirements?
Both are excellent choices, but given your penchant for performance, we would lean towards the XUV 3XO. The Mahindra has a lot going for it - the most powerful engines (petrol or diesel) in the segment, a long wheelbase and well tuned chassis that delivers a great blend of ride quality, stability and fun dynamics, a weighty steering with decent feedback, and a very spacious cabin. While all the engines are strong, since you do a lot of outstation travel, perhaps the diesel is the better choice - but test drive both and take your pick. The Sonet is the better all-rounder, with greater refinement, flashier features, better fuel economy and arguably stronger reliability and aftersales service quality. Spec for spec, it could even be better value for money, too. However, its back seat is nowhere near as spacious and the ride quality is very firm and choppy, which could become an issue on longer drives. Plus, it isn't quite as engaging to drive as the Mahindra car, and thus we would recommend the XUV 3XO for your upgrade from the Swift.
I am planning to buy a new petrol automatic car with a budget of around Rs. 14 lakh, and my driving will be predominantly in the city. I have shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi AT and the Mahindra XUV 3XO RevX A. The XUV 3XO RevX A appeals to me because of its premium interior, features, and panoramic sunroof, while the Brezza stands out for its refinement and long-term reliability. Considering my usage and priorities, which one would you recommend?
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi AT would be the recommendation here, but with one important caveat. The Brezza's naturally aspirated petrol engine and torque-converter automatic make it one of the smoothest and most easy-going compact SUVs for city driving. It is also likely to be noticeably more fuel efficient than the Mahindra XUV 3XO RevX A in real-world conditions. Add Maruti's strong reliability record and lower ownership costs makes it a very compelling package. The 3XO RevX A, however, is the more exciting car to drive. Its turbo-petrol engine delivers stronger performance, and the overall driving experience feels more energetic and engaging. It also has the edge when it comes to cabin ambience, features and perceived premium feel, with highlights such as the panoramic sunroof and a more upmarket interior. The only thing to keep in mind is that the Brezza is expected to receive a facelift later this year. If you're leaning towards the Maruti and your purchase is not urgent, it may be worth waiting to see what updates the refreshed model brings.
Hi Autocar, I am planning to buy my first car. I am new to the car world and to driving, having only learned the basics for obtaining my licence. I also have some driving anxiety. I need a proper automatic car. I currently have two options: the XUV 3XO MX2 Pro AT and the Kylaq Classic Plus AT. The Classic Plus misses out on rear AC vents, so is that okay? My priorities are safety, reliability, hassle-free ownership, a 50:50 city-highway driving mix, the ability to comfortably seat three people in the rear on 40-50% of trips, good mileage, and a strict budget of up to Rs 12 lakh on-road.
Pick the Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro automatic. It stays within your Rs. 12 lakh on-road cap and will feel easiest for a new, nervous driver thanks to its smooth automatic, light controls and good visibility. It is also one of the safer small SUVs, and importantly for you, the back seat is wide enough for three people. The downside is that the 3XO is not very fuel-efficient as it's tuned for a peppy drive. The Skoda Kylaq Classic Plus automatic will also be within your budget and meet most of your needs, but for three adults at the rear, it would not be as spacious as the Mahindra. One small tip for confidence: pick a variant with a rear camera and drive a bit more with a learning school till you are competent enough to ensure your safety and that of others on the road too. Happy Motoring!
