The new Skoda Octavia RS was sold out in India even before the company officially revealed its price. Only 100 units were allocated in the first batch, and all were claimed on the very first day Skoda opened bookings for the car. The Octavia RS has quite a loyal fan base in India, which means many enthusiasts were left disappointed. However, the good news is that Skoda could be bringing a new batch of cars early next year.

Skoda Octavia RS second batch details 

Speaking to Autocar India on the sidelines of the media drive event of the Octavia RS, Ashish Gupta, the brand director for Skoda India, said, “I will definitely be working on getting more cars to India. Apart from the ones already allocated, the remaining people are on our communications list. We will be in touch with them, and our endeavour will be to get more cars early next year.”

Gupta said the Octavia RS has amassed nearly 350 bookings so far, but before opening up the order books again, the brand will honour the existing bookings. “The first right of refusal should go to the people who have already put their money on the car. But we would want to make it available to more people as well. Within the guidelines of the regulations [2,500-unit import rule] and price points, we will consider getting more cars to India,” he said.

Skoda Octavia price and specs 

The Octavia RS was launched at an ex-showroom price of Rs 49.99 lakh as a fully imported model. Deliveries for the first 100 units are currently underway. Powering it is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which makes 265hp and 370Nm and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, sending power to the front wheels. 

The same powertrain also does duty on the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which, incidentally, also got completely sold out due to its limited allocation. Volkswagen, too, is working on bringing a second batch of Golf GTIs to India. 

The Octavia RS does not have any direct rival in India. At Rs 50 lakh, it is one of the few accessible performance-oriented cars in our market, alongside the Volkswagen Golf GTI.
