The Tata Sierra price starts from Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 21.29 lakh (ex-showroom), with 24 variants on offer. Tata Motors launched the new Sierra on 25 November 2025, and it slots in the middle of the Curvv and Harrier SUVs in the homegrown carmaker’s lineup.

The Tata Sierra mileage depends on the engine and transmission options. As per ARAI, the petrol variants offer a mileage of around 16–18 kmpl, while the diesel variants deliver better fuel efficiency at approximately 18–20 kmpl. The 1.5-litre engine choices are offered with the latest Sierra, namely an all-new direct-injection turbo petrol unit and its naturally aspirated derivative, as well as a diesel. Manual and automatic transmission options are available.

As with all Tata cars, the variant-wise Tata Sierra features vary. It packs goodies like dual-tone 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with a full-width LED light bar on top, panoramic sunroof, flush-type door handles, a powered tailgate, segment-first three-screen setup: one for instrumentation and two for infotainment, Dolby Atmos, rear window sunshades, Boss mode functionality for the front passenger seat and more. A 360-degree camera setup, ABS, EBD and an ADAS suite are on offer too.

Tata Sierra Rivals:

The Sierra SUV competes in the hotly contested midsize SUV segment, which includes the Hyundai CretaMaruti Grand Vitara and VictorisToyota HyryderKia Seltos and Honda Elevate. The Volkswagen TaigunSkoda KushaqMG Astor and Citroen Aircross X are also among rivals, with the Basalt being a coupe-SUV alternative.

Tata Sierra Safety Rating:

The Sierra safety rating has yet to be revealed. However, the Sierra safety features include 6 airbags as standard, Level 2 ADAS, traction control, front and rear disc brakes, 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake with auto hold, hill hold assist, and more.

Key Highlights of Tata Sierra:

  • The original, 3-door Sierra was discontinued in 2003.
  • 2026 Sierra debuts Tata’s all-new 1.5L direct injection turbo-petrol engine.
  • Naturally aspirated 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel engine options also on offer.
  • Sierra car is positioned above the Curvv midsize SUV in Tata’s line-up.
  • Sierra rivals are the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, and more.
  • A high-set bonnet, squarish wheel arches are a nod to the original SUV, just like the thick B-pillar, kink in the window line.
  • It skips the old Sierra’s curved glass, but the blacked-out section between B- and C-pillars creates a similar visual effect.
  • Sierra feature list comprises LED light bars at the front and rear, 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, three-screen setup, 12-speaker JBL sound system, etc.

My budget is around ₹24 to 26 lakh, and I am confused between the Hyundai Creta and the new Tata Sierra.

Between the two, considering your budget, we would suggest going for the new Tata Sierra over the Creta.
The Hyundai Creta is still a competitive product, but the Sierra has moved the game forward. It is larger on the outside, more spacious inside, and comes equipped with premium features, including a triple-screen layout and a powered tailgate. In turbo petrol automatic form, the Sierra is well matched to Hyundai’s turbo petrol DCT and, in fact, feels smoother at city speeds thanks to its torque converter gearbox. It also feels more confident at higher speeds, and combined with the roomier and more comfortable cabin, makes for a better long-distance car.
That said, if you are looking at a diesel, the Hyundai diesel engine is more refined of the two. Similarly, in the case of naturally aspirated petrol engines, there is no real competition. Hyundai’s 1.5-litre NA petrol is superior on all counts, and its CVT automatic is smoother than Tata’s dual clutch transmission.
One reason to be cautious about the Creta is that it is expected to be replaced early next year, which means it could start to feel dated sooner.
Another car you should definitely consider is the new Kia Seltos. It carries over the Creta’s strengths thanks to shared powertrains, but builds on them by being a newer generation car. It is larger than the Creta, even longer than the Sierra, offers more space than the Creta, has the most premium interiors of the three, and also undercuts the Sierra by over Rs 1 lakh, making it a very strong value

I want to purchase an SUV with a budget of ₹15 to 18 lakh. My usage will be around 80% city and 20% highway. I am confused between the Tata Sierra and the Maruti Victoris.

Given your budget and usage pattern, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Strong Hybrid would make more sense for you. Since 80% of your driving is within city confines, you'll benefit from the strong hybrid's impressive 28.65kpl claimed efficiency. The Victoris is also marginally smaller and has lighter controls than the Tata Sierra, which will make manoeuvring in the city easier. Maruti Suzuki Victoris Strong Hybrid prices range from Rs 16.38 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

My query is about choosing between the Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, the new Kia Seltos, and the Skoda Kushaq. My budget is ₹20 lakh. Please guide me.

The Renault Duster will launch in March, and prices for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine will be revealed then. From what we know, the Duster has a strong road presence thanks to its bold and aggressive design and tough demeanour. We are yet to see how it performs out on the road, so we will reserve our comments till that happens.
The Tata Sierra is a strong package with lots of character in its design and styling and a strong set of features. What also helps its case is the wide array of variants on offer with multiple powertrain options. Its strengths remain its design, space and ride comfort. If you care for these three, the Sierra is the one to go for.
The Skoda Kushaq was recently updated, and it gets new features like massage seats at the rear. However, it still remains a car for driving enthusiasts, especially with the 1.5-litre TSI engine. If you enjoy getting behind the wheel and prefer the driver's seat, the Kushaq would be a very good option. However, what it gains in handling, it loses in ride, and it just isn't as plush as the Sierra. It also misses the character and road presence of the Tata.
The Kia Seltos is a massive improvement from what it was before and is loaded with features. It also gets a host of engine and gearbox options, and the only real deterrent is its aggressive styling. If you don't mind that, the Seltos is a top choice in the segment.

Hi, I own a Ritz 2013 model petrol and it has been a good experience with it. I have driven around 60k till now. I now want to add another car keeping Ritz as well for few more years. I am looking for an upgrade having a better engine, automatic and good interiors. My budget is in the range of 20 to 25L. I do not want a bigger SUV like XUV 700 as it is too huge and difficult to drive within the city. I drive only on weekends in the city and most long drives are outside the city. I drive around 4000 to 5000 kms in a year. I was thinking of Tata Sierra, new Seltos, Creta and Hyryder but mostly liked the Sierra as it is a new car with good features. Can you please suggest which is the best option?

Since you’ve already liked the Tata Sierra a lot, you can go ahead with it. We’d recommend the Turbo Petrol automatic variant, as it is powerful, delivers effortless performance, and will feel like a proper upgrade over your Maruti Suzuki Ritz.

The Sierra also comes with a naturally aspirated petrol option, but it isn’t very strong on performance. In fact, it is among the slowest cars we have tested, with a 0 to 100 kph time of 17.34 seconds for the manual transmission.

If your usage is predominantly city based and you value smoothness over outright performance, you can also consider the new Kia Seltos with the 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with either a manual or a smooth CVT automatic. This engine feels noticeably stronger than the Sierra’s naturally aspirated unit and will still feel like an upgrade over your Ritz.

I am confused about my car purchase. I was initially fixed on the Grand Vitara due to its mileage and service network, but recent additions to the market like the Seltos and Duster have made me reconsider. Mileage is my main priority, but better features would be a bonus. I mainly travel 300-400 km per month. My current Tata Altroz delivers low mileage.

If you are already fixed on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara but want more features, then we would suggest going for the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. It is basically the same car and gets the same super-efficient hybrid powertrain as the Vitara, but more importantly, it comes loaded with extra features, such as a bigger touchscreen infotainment system, a powered tailgate, and Level 2 ADAS as well. Maruti Suzuki has also improved the interior quality, and the good thing is that the pricing is almost the same, which makes the Victoris a great value.
Considering your running is not that high, at under 500 km per month, you can also consider a car with slightly lower mileage, since the overall impact on your fuel bills won’t be significant. It will roughly be in the region of Rs 1500-1800 per month, and if you are okay with that, then you can look at the Tata Sierra Turbo petrol AT as well. The Sierra gives you a big car feel, is loaded with features, and is more spacious and comfortable than the Victoris.
Another car we would suggest is the new Kia Seltos. It is very well priced for the features it offers, feels really premium on the inside, and both the petrol engines are potent and proven powertrains.
We have yet to drive the new Renault Duster, but it does look like a promising product if priced right. It will also be offered with an efficient hybrid powertrain, which is expected to go on sale around Diwali this year. So if you are willing to wait, that is another option worth exploring.

I have been driving a Ciaz petrol since 2018, and my running is very low - in the last 7 years, it has been less than 40,000 km. I like the Tata Sierra and am wondering whether I should wait two years to buy a new car or buy a new vehicle now. My budget is ₹18 lakhs. Should I continue with my old car?

If your current car is running well and there are no mechanical concerns, it makes sense to hold on to it for another two years. However, if you are keen on upgrading, the engine to opt for in the Tata Sierra is the 1.5-litre turbo petrol. But for that, you will have to stretch your budget to over 20 lakhs.

Waiting for a couple of more years might work in your favour, as by then more new products would have entered the market, giving you wider options to choose from.

My key requirements are: a 5-seater petrol car, good boot space, 4m+ length, classy interiors, and a budget under ₹25 lakh. Which SUV would be best for me among the Seltos, Sierra, Victoris, or Duster?

From your shortlist, the Renault Duster and Maruti Suzuki Victoris are not as spacious as the Sierra and Seltos, and hence, comfort for five passengers will be compromised. Plus, the Tata Sierra and Seltos have bigger boots too, so based on your basic requirements, we can narrow your choice down to these two SUVs.
Between the Sierra and Seltos, the Kia Seltos is a well-engineered and safe choice but if you want a bit more class, we feel the Sierra, with its stunning design and styling, and well-appointed interiors with a three-screen display, will pull at your heartstrings that much harder.

Asked by: Sidon Jan 28, 2026

Hello, I am looking to purchase a car within ₹20 lakhs. I already own a Creta (manual petrol). My daily running is approximately 30 km and I plan to keep the car for at least 10 years. I am currently considering the Victorius, the new Seltos, and the Windsor. My requirements are good boot space and legroom, comfortable seating for three persons in the back row, a smooth driving experience, and a hassle-free experience with performance and servicing. Please suggest which car and variant I should go ahead with, and whether I should consider any other car.

For you, the best option here is the new Kia Seltos HTX 1.5 petrol IVT. Having grown larger in this new generation, it is among the best in the segment on boot space and legroom, as well as shoulder room and comfort in the second row, with only the Tata Sierra offering slightly more. Moreover, it is reliable, and Kia is known to be quite hassle-free in terms of service and after-sales care.

The 1.5 petrol with the CVT gearbox is the smoothest powertrain on offer - the diesel is smooth too, but given your usage and budget, it's better to save some money and get this version instead.

Asked by: Srikanthon Jan 28, 2026

I am looking to buy a top-variant SUV with a budget of ₹30 lakhs, and my monthly usage will be under 1,500 km, with about 80% city and 20% highway driving. Between the Kia Seltos and the Tata Sierra, which would you recommend? Specifically, given the high city usage, should I avoid a diesel automatic due to potential DPF clogging issues, or is it still a viable option for low running costs? For the petrol automatic variants, which transmission is better for bumper-to-bumper traffic - the smooth iVT/CVT for reliability or the DCT/DCA for performance? Between these two SUVs, which top-spec petrol powertrain offers the best balance of city comfort and long-term peace of mind?

The DPF clogging issue is not as bad as you might think, and even with 20 percent highway driving, you should be able to cycle it without any extra effort. Still, since your usage is under 1500km a month, petrol is probably a more viable option anyway.

Both these SUVs should fall comfortably in your Rs 30 lakh budget for their top-spec versions, and the greater dilemma is the choice of engine and gearbox. The Tata Sierra's 1.5 NA petrol is rather weak, and its DCT gearbox isn't smooth, so we don't recommend it. The Kia Seltos' 1.5 petrol CVT is much better, more powerful and smoother too.

Conversely, when it comes to turbo petrols, the Tata's 1.5 turbo with the torque-converter auto is smoother than the Seltos' T-GDi DCT, so it comes out on top. Overall, considering the SUV as well as the powertrain, given your usage, we'd recommend the Seltos 1.5 IVT.

Hi Autocar, you are doing a splendid job in the auto sector - congratulations to the Autocar team and thank you for your service. My query is about choosing between the Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos (new), and Škoda Kushaq. My budget is ₹15 lakh. Please guide me.

Hi, thank you so much for your kind words. Really glad you are enjoying our work.

Between the three cars, if you are looking for a car for city commutes and considering your budget, we would suggest the Kia Seltos. In your budget, you will get the HTE (O) powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The engine is smooth, refined and has enough power for daily usage and even for highway driving, it feels enough. The new Seltos too feels premium inside out, and even in the bottom or in this case mid variant comes very well equipped.

The Tata Sierra’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine feels just about enough for city driving, but out on the highway, it could have done with more power. In your budget, you will get only the base Smart + variant, or if you stretch by 50,000 over your budget, then the Pure variant will fit. But the Sierra in the lower variants is not that well equipped. In fact, the base variant does’t come with an infotainment at all.

The Skoda Kushaq facelift will be launched in March 2026, and if you are willing to wait, do glance at it. It will come with revised design and more features than the current car.
