As an owner, I find the driving dynamics and steering feedback to be the best in the segment. The cabin is spacious, and it has the best naturally aspirated engine in the segment. Factory fitted Alpine speakers are good, though they don't get much recognition. The AC performance is one of the best in class. However, the CVT is smooth but not suitable for aggressive drivers. Tyre noise can be annoying on bad roads. Under thigh support and overall seat comfort are not the best in the segment. The Alpine infotainment system disconnects when transitioning from 4G to 5G, though some improvement was made with a software update. The back row middle hump makes it comfortable for only two people in the rear seat. Must-have features like TPMS are sold as accessories. My experience with the Honda service centre was not great.

Citroen C3X AT is the most underrated, value for money, fun to drive, feature-loaded, quick, and effortless car under 11 lakhs in India. Please do a test drive and you won't look back.
I often drive with great pleasure on highway and rise maximum speed 140 kmph without hazards. I like this car very much and maintenance cost is low. It's very comfortable car also. It's roof hight too much high than another.

Ask owners & Autocar experts.
The Maruti Wagon R is an incredibly functional budget car that offers a lot of space and practicality at its price point. While it is not a driver's car, it still has all everything you would expect from a budget-oriented hatchback, making it a value-for-money offering.

I want to buy a new car for my parents. My father used to drive, but he no longer does so due to age and health-related issues. I live in a Tier-2 city and previously owned a 2010 Wagon R 1.0. Although it had covered only 40,000 km, it is now showing signs of ageing, such as rusting and high maintenance costs. I am looking for a hassle-free new car, and since it will mostly remain parked in the garage, it won't see much usage. Budget is under 8 lakh.

autocar.india
Buy the Maruti Wagon R. It fits under Rs. 8 lakh, is easy for elderly parents to get in and out of, and keeps running costs and headaches very low. The high-set seats, big doors and great visibility will feel familiar coming from your old Wagon R, and for a car that will mostly sit at home, Maruti’s wide Tier-2 service reach and affordable parts matter more than anything fancy. If you want a change, the other models of interest are the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch. Both are relatively easy to get into and out of, which we'd give high priority in a car for your parents.

Hi, I own a Wagon R 1.0 liter engine. I bought it in November 2025. I had done 2 free services of it. My car gives me about 13-15 kmpl in city driving when the AC is on. I drive at a speed of about 60 km in the city. Is this average ok? If not, then what should I do? My daily ride is about 20 km.

autocar.india
A city fuel efficiency of 13-15kpl with the air conditioning on is slightly on the lower side for a Wagon R 1.0, but it isn't necessarily a cause for concern, especially if you're driving in Lucknow's city traffic with frequent stops and the AC running throughout your journey.Your 20km daily commute should be enough for the engine to reach its normal operating temperature, but fuel efficiency can still vary depending on traffic conditions, idling time and driving style. We'd recommend checking that your tyre pressures are maintained at the manufacturer's recommended levels, avoiding hard acceleration and excessive idling, and using good-quality fuel from reputed fuel stations.

I am looking to buy a new AMT car to replace my 9-year-old Hyundai Grand i10. My budget is Rs, 8 lakh (on-road price). I am confused between Maruti Suzuki WagonR ZXi Plus 1.2 Petrol AMT and Hyundai Exter HX3 AMT. The car will also be driven by my father, who is 70 years old. Both cars have a good seating position and offer easy ingress and egress. The WagonR offers better fuel efficiency, even with E20 petrol, along with electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, rear power windows, and a rear wiper. The Exter, on the other hand, has a more modern design, higher ground clearance, a reverse camera, and driver seat height adjustment. The car will be driven mostly in the city. Which one should I choose?

autocar.india
Pick the Hyundai Exter HX3 AMT. For mostly city use and a 70-year-old driver, it sits a bit higher and the height-adjust driver seat and reverse camera make daily driving and parking easier. It also packs more safety kit as standard, which is reassuring when both of you will share it.Your Wagon R case is strong on running costs and convenience. It will sip less fuel and that ZXi+ adds power-fold mirrors, rear power windows and a rear wiper the Exter HX3 misses. It may also fit your Rs. 8 lakh on-road target more easily. If the Exter HX3 AMT slips within your budget, it is the better everyday companion for, ease of use and safety in the city. If it stretches the budget too much, the Wagon R ZXi+ AMT remains a sensible, cheap-to-run fallback.

Hi, I own a 2023 Nissan Magnite XE. My annual running is relatively low as I am retired. I underwent knee surgery six months ago, and therefore, I am considering upgrading to an automatic vehicle. Would it be possible and practical to upgrade from my current Nissan Magnite XE to an automatic version?

autocar.india
Yes, but not by converting your car. The safe and sensible route is to trade in your 2023 Magnite XE for a Magnite automatic. Given your knee surgery and low running, go for the turbo automatic version because it is much smoother in traffic and takes the stress off your left leg completely. Be aware that the turbo automatic will sip a bit more fuel than your current manual. If you are on a tight budget, then the naturally aspirated Magnite can be had with an AMT, though it isn't the smoothest-shifting AMT out there. If you are looking for alternatives, then the Hyundai Exter AMT or the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R AMT could be good choices. They are both easy to get in and out of, compact for city use and fuel-efficient.

I am 47 years old and have recently learned to drive, but I am still not very confident behind the wheel. However, I now have a genuine need for a car, as my daughters have grown taller and it is no longer practical for all four of us to travel on a motorcycle. We also end up relying on Ola cabs for most of our trips. I live in Bangalore and am looking for an economical and reliable car that can comfortably accommodate a family of five. I would prefer an automatic transmission, but I am not completely sure whether that would be the best choice for me. I am also confused about whether I should buy a used small car initially and upgrade later, or purchase a new car right away, as I am concerned about maintenance costs as well. Additionally, could you please advise me on how to build confidence as a new driver?

autocar.india
Go for a new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R automatic. It’s the easiest, cheapest way to move a family of five in Bengaluru while you build confidence. The tall seat and big windows make it simple to judge gaps, the steering is light for traffic and parking, and upkeep is among the lowest with Maruti’s huge service network. For city runs with two growing kids plus an adult in the back, the headroom helps and the flat floor is handy. One catch: it feels basic and the shifts aren’t the smoothest in bumper‑to‑bumper. If money is tight, a 2‑3 year old Wagon R or Tata Tiago automatic from a brand‑certified outlet is fine. Don’t go older than 5 years, and insist on service records and a warranty. To build confidence, practice 20‑30 minutes at dawn for two weeks on the same quiet loop, then add one new element at a time: U‑turns, flyovers, traffic. Spend an hour only on parking in an empty lot. Use an L sticker, stay in the left lane, keep a big gap, and book 3‑4 refresher lessons locally.

I am 67 years old. I want to buy a car under 6-7 lakh. Kindly suggest!

autocar.india
Consider the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. A Maruti gives you the most peace of mind for the money, and the Wagon R is light and easy to drive, easy to get in and out of, and economical to run. A mid-spec VXi with the 1.0-litre engine and AMT would be the ideal combination. The VXi has all the basic features covered, and the AMT takes away the stress of shifting gears. If you do not like the Wagon R’s tall-boy stance, then the Celerio is a strong alternative, though getting in and out is not quite as easy. Some honest caveats with the Wagon R are that it is not particularly settled on the highway, and the interior can feel a bit basic. If you do a lot of highway driving or want a more premium-looking interior, then the Tata Tiago is the better bet.

I currently own a 2018 Ford EcoSport Titanium Diesel MT. Since the car is nearing its 10-year permissible period in Delhi, I am planning to sell it and buy a new one without spending too much from my own pocket. I am considering the Wagon R ZXi 1.2 and the new Tata Punch 2026 base model. Please help me decide which would be the better car. I drive mostly in the city and occasionally go on highway trips.

autocar.india
The Tata Punch would be the recommendation here. Coming from a Ford EcoSport, the Punch will feel like a more natural replacement. It offers a higher seating position, a more SUV-like driving experience and a reassuringly solid feel on the road. It is also better suited to occasional highway trips, where its stability and overall comfort are superior to the Wagon R.The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.2 scores highly on practicality, fuel efficiency and ease of driving in the city. It is also likely to be cheaper to buy and maintain. However, it feels like a step down from an EcoSport in terms of build, road presence and overall driving experience.Since you are looking to minimise additional expenditure, the Wagon R makes sense from a purely financial perspective. But if the budget allows, the Punch is the car that will feel more like an upgrade rather than a compromise.

Hi experts, I am planning to upgrade from my Maruti Suzuki Wagon R to a midsize SUV. My budget is Rs. 18 lakh. My usage will be primarily on highways, with very limited city driving. My priorities are safety, comfort, fuel efficiency and maintenance costs. Based on these requirements, could you please share your recommendations?

autocar.india
The Skoda Kushaq or Volkswagen Taigun 1.0 TSI Automatic would be the top recommendations here.Since your usage is predominantly on highways, the strengths of these two SUVs align very well with your requirements. Both feel stable and confidence-inspiring at higher speeds, offer comfortable ride quality and have strong safety credentials. Their turbo-petrol engines deliver a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency, while the new 8-speed automatic transmission should further improve efficiency and drivability. They also represent a substantial upgrade over the Wagon R in terms of refinement, comfort and long-distance cruising ability.Another strong option is the Honda Elevate CVT. It may not feel as sporty or engaging to drive as the Skoda and Volkswagen twins, but it excels in comfort, reliability and ease of ownership. The naturally aspirated petrol engine is smooth and proven, while maintenance costs are likely to be among the lowest in the segment.

I am a 77-year-old senior citizen. I have back issues, and my wife is also a senior citizen. We find it difficult to get in and out of certain cars. Could you suggest the most suitable options within a budget of Rs 10 lakh?

autocar.india
In terms of an elevated seating position and ease of getting in and out, the Tata Punch is the best fit within your budget. Its doors open wide, and the seats are comfortable and set high, so you step into it rather than down into it. The drawbacks are that the engine isn’t the most refined, and Tata’s service experience can be hit or miss in some areas.Alternatively, the Hyundai Exter automatic is a good choice too. The high, chair-like seats and wide-opening doors make getting in and out easy. The seating position isn’t quite as high as the Punch’s, so it is worth trying both to see which works best for you. On the plus side, the engine is very refined, the AMT is one of the smoother-shifting units in the segment, and Hyundai has a strong reputation for after-sales service. If you want something that is even easier to live with on a tight budget, look at the Maruti Wagon R AMT. The tall-boy design is excellent for seniors. Just know that while it is a great city car, it is not particularly well-suited to highway driving.

I want to buy the new 2026 facelift version of the Tata Tiago. Is it a good option within this budget, or should I consider any other brands?

autocar.india
The 2026 Tiago gets more cosmetic enhancements, new interiors and more features, and like the outgoing car, it feels very user-friendly, thanks to its light controls, compact size and good visibility all around. If you like the Tiago, go ahead with it.For similar money, you'll also get a Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, which has more cabin space, and its engines are also smoother and more efficient. You can also get a Hyundai Grand i10 Nios with a four-cylinder petrol engine which is more refined, and its controls are smoother than the Tata's. The Nios also has better interior quality and fit-finish.
