I am planning to buy the new Hyundai Venue HX6 DCT petrol. Most of my driving will be within Bangalore city in bumper-to-bumper traffic, with occasional highway trips. I am looking for a modern car with decent features, and this variant fits my budget of Rs 12-14 lakh. I am 27 years old, 6 feet tall, and this will be my first car. Usage will mostly be with two occupants (driver + 1), though occasionally there could be 4. Is this a good choice, and are there any obvious drawbacks I should be aware of?
The Hyundai Venue HX6 DCT is a good pick for your requirements, but it is advisable to check the following models as well. Here's a list of options and how they compare -
- Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXI AT: Down on wow features to the Venue, but has a smoother gearbox, plusher ride, and more comfortable seats.
- Skoda Kylaq Signature+ AT: Again, not as well-equipped as the Venue, but it has a smoother gearbox and punchier engine. Space at the back is less, but it shouldn't be a deal breaker for you.
- Kia Sonet HTX Petrol DCT: It is due for replacement within a year, but it is very competent. Packs in plenty of tech and shares its engine and gearbox with the Venue, and is actually a better value for money. Space is less at the back, but it shouldn't be a deal breaker for you.
- Mahindra XUV 3XO REVX A: Stronger engine, lots of features, and feels tougher in its build. Boot space is less than the Hyundai car.

Hi Autocar Expert, I am planning to purchase a new petrol automatic car. I request your advice on the same. I am confused between Creta & Victoris. My driving is limited to weekend city drives; once a month is 3 months out of the city. I am looking for a value for money option which can give me safety, comfort & driving pleasure.
The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is a good option for you. It is a spacious and comfortable 7-seater, and the petrol engine is refined and punchy. The automatic gearbox is smooth, and the ride quality is good too.
The Victoris is also very fuel-efficient, and the Maruti Suzuki service network is vast and reliable. The only downside is that the third row is best suited for kids.

Which 7-seater car should I buy within a budget of ₹8 to ₹10 lakh?
The Renault Triber is the best 7-seater option if you want a car with ample cabin space, practicality, and value for money. The fully-loaded petrol-manual version of the Triber will easily fall within your budget. But if you regularly drive on the highway with a full load of passengers and luggage, the Triber's performance will feel sluggish.
In that case, you could consider the base variant of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. You will miss a few features when compared to a Triber, however, its relatively more effortless performance makes it a good choice.

Hello, Sir/Madam. I own a 2009 Honda City that has clocked 2.55 lakh kilometres, and I am extremely happy with it. It's like my second wife. However, due to family pressure, I am now considering upgrading to a new car. I drive around 1,500km a month, mostly on highways, and we are a family of five. The cars I am considering are the XUV 7XO, Invicto, new Seltos, Elevate, or a used Innova Crysta. I would also like advice on an automatic hatchback or compact SUV for my wife. Please advise.
Given you have a family of five, a larger car would work better to accommodate luggage as well, in case any of your 1,500 monthly kilometres are family driving holidays. Since you're used to the rock-solid reliability of the Honda City, we would recommend the Maruti Suzuki Invicto from your shortlist.
The hybrid powertrain of this Maruti car is incredibly efficient, smooth, refined, and very comfortable, and it should be reliable enough to last as long as your City has. The other midsize SUVs you have listed are also good, but they will not offer the same space, comfort, and flexibility as the Invicto.

I live in Hyderabad and drive around 20-30km daily with my wife. Due to the nature of our work, I also need to carry goods in my car, so it must be spacious yet suitable as a family vehicle. My budget is ₹10-12 lakh. I am not interested in fancy features and would prefer something practical and fuel-efficient.
Given your requirements, you should consider the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Ertiga comes with all the necessary features like touchscreen infotainment system, alloy wheels and automatic climate control, while also providing a spacious cabin with a third row of seats. The boot space with all rows up is 209 litres, which can be expanded to 550 litres by folding the third row.
This Maruti Suzuki car is powered by a 103hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine that can be had with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Claimed fuel efficiency stands at 20.51kpl for the manual and 20.3kpl for the automatic. There's even a CNG version on offer with a 5-speed manual that has a claimed efficiency of 26.11km/kg. I’m planning to buy a Fronx Sigma, but the 2025 models are out of stock. On the other hand, I’m getting a ₹1.20 lakh discount on a 2025 Toyota Taisor E MT petrol. @Autocar, please suggest which vehicle I should purchase between the Fronx and the Taisor.
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have a global partnership which has yielded many shared products. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor are essentially the same car and are even built on the same production line. The differences are down to the badges, a few styling elements and colour options.
The Taisor E is the equivalent to the Fronx Sigma. If you are getting a Rs 1.2 lakh discount on the Taisor, we recommend taking it. It's a very sweet deal.

I want to buy an automatic SUV with an on-road budget of ₹14-15 lakh. I prefer a 1.5-litre engine and do not like DCT gearboxes. Around 90% of my driving will be in the city. Please suggest a suitable option.
Since you prefer a large-capacity engine, consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. It comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a smooth 6-speed torque converter automatic.
This gearbox is well-suited to city driving and relaxed usage, unlike DCTs, which tend to be clunky. A fully loaded Brezza Automatic should come in at just under Rs 15 lakh on road.

Hi, we are planning to buy a car. We have used an Alto 800 for 14.5 years and are now choosing between the Hyundai Exter and Maruti Brezza. Which one should we go for?
If your budget allows, go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. It's a larger vehicle and offers a more spacious interior. The Brezza also has the larger engine that delivers significantly better performance.
An absorbent suspension and plush ride comfort is another highlight on the Maruti compact SUV.

Hi, I have recently learned to drive and am planning to buy my first car. My budget is around Rs 10 lakh, with an expected monthly usage of about 600km, mostly within Chennai city. I am looking for a reliable automatic car with good mileage and decent features. I have shortlisted the Maruti Swift and Baleno, Hyundai Exter and i10 Nios, Kia Sonet and Nissan Magnite. I also like the Mahindra XUV 3XO for its looks. Would it be practical for my usage? Thank you.
Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol AT is a good-looking car, but it is not particularly known for mileage. In our real-world test, the XUV 3XO gave a mileage of 9.89 kpl in the city. In comparison, the Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT gives a mileage of 12.7 kpl in the city.
If you want a slightly bigger car, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT or Toyota Glanza AMT can be a good option. They are essentially the same car with different badges. Both offer a real-world fuel efficiency of around 12 kpl, and can deliver even more with a relaxed driving style. They are also known for their reliability and low cost of ownership.

I am planning to buy a new car. My monthly running is around 2,000-2,500km. I currently drive a 2019 Santro AMT. Diesel and EVs are not an option. Please suggest a reliable, fuel-efficient petrol automatic within a budget of ₹20-22 lakh.
Given your running, we'd recommend a petrol-electric hybrid which would meet your requirements for great efficiency and automatic transmission. Options within your budget include the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Grand Vitara, Hyryder and Honda City Hybrid, all of which are reliable products.
The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is the newest and incorporates several improvements over the Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, with which it is closely related. The Victoris makes for a sensible choice, packing in plenty of features and great efficiency. However, boot space is limited on the hybrid and space at the back is also not great for an SUV/crossover of this size.
The Honda City Hybrid, in comparison, offers a better back seat experience and also more room for luggage. Do note, as good as the Honda City Hybrid is, it's not a very popular product, and this could impact resale when it's time to sell.
